Thread: Problem with DRO's memory or with mine?
02/01/2021 22:56:27

According to my manual, the Sleep function is NOT APPLICABLE TO the 3 Axis version.

Just been to the workshop (BRR) and tried my 2 axis DRO on the milling machine

The DRO must be in INC mode, pressing HA puts it to sleep mode and the displays go blank as if powered down but still tracks any axis movements which are displayed when HA is pressed again. But if the DRO is switched off either by the rear switch or wall socket any axis movement is not stored.

Thread: Lathe Setup / Tests
15/11/2020 19:07:57

Looking at the Myford Inspection sheets:

test 16, work held in chuck, permissible error .0000" to .0008"

test 17, between centres permissible error 0000" to .0004"

So I think you are doing well with your test results.

Thread: Good way of attaching instructions to a painted surface

Laminate the printed instructions and use thin double sided tape to fix it in place. I use this method to produce control panel overlays etc with good results.

clarkson chuck.jpgI think Simon may be correct regarding the type of chuck. I've just fitted mine and with the threaded backing ring screwed up to the bottom of the quill there are about four threads showing.Might seem a bit obvious but have you tried spraying some Wd40 type lubricate down the quill?

28/04/2020 17:19:34

Here is the spec for the light vertical. Looks like 2MT, R8 and 30 INT were all options.

" clean out and re-tune the spring mechanism for the quill "

Unless it's really necessary I would not dismantle the quill return spring assembly as it's a right pain to get it back together. If the quill is sticking and not returning, fully extend it and clean it then use a light oil in the top oiling point.

Thread: What Did You Do Today 2020
26/04/2020 20:29:34

When using a plunger type DTI on the lathe I use to just clamp it by the lug on the back in a QCT holder of course it was on it's side, not ideal. Today finally got around to making some thing better after spotting a 3D printed one on ebay. I machined it from Alluminum.Works just fine.

Nice looking machine. When I bought my T S light vertical mill I was a bit nervous on removing the milling chuck, but the advise I was given from a member on here was unscrew the draw bar a few threads and just give it a sharp tap with a soft faced hammer BUT make sure the fine feed clutch on the right is disengaged first.

z axis base.jpgy axis engraved -0-40.jpgx axis engraved 0-40.jpgengraved 90-0-90.jpgengraved 50-0-50 top & bottom.jpgI know that Ron had his engraving question sorted, but I thought I would share this for the future.

I'm building the ACTO T & C grinder and have had the following number engraving done by " Modern Engraving" Stoke On Trent.

1. Two 50mm hand wheels 0-40

2. Two 70mm flanges 50-0-50 top and bottom.

3. one 70mm flange 90-0-90

4. one 100mm base 0-350

I had done the lines and knew I would mess them up if I tried stamping the numbers.

The cost was £50 for the lot which I consider VERY reasonable.

07/02/2020 21:45:23

ML7 manual gives the weight as:

Lathe+motor 2001bs

Lathe+motor+stand 320ibs

Add 16ibs for QC gear box
