Anyone who preordered unless in the last few days should have received it.
Smiths are a pain.
I don't know how Smiths work out who gets it.
 
The new best of special is a bit vaque.
When I decide what is in it, I will post it here.
Some content has been decided but not all.
 
3 of Stan Brays engines are in it. Edgar Westbury did a little oscillating engine and that is included.  I will put one of Edgar's petrol engines in. Possibly Wyvern but that needs expensive castings although it could be mde from the solid quite easily.
 
One of Martin Evans locos will be included. It will include all drawngs but may need the text editing shorter.
 
What would you like to see included
Must be Westbury or Evans or Stan Bray.

f you make one for yourself fine.
If you make one for youelf and one to give away fine.
If you make one for yourself and one t sell even if only down the pub, you breach copyright of the designer.

A friend has a Hoffman dividing head and needs BP HLP 50 grease or an equivalent for the spindle lock.
 
Does anyone have any idea where he can get some or an equivalent?

I said it was a power tool exhibition.
Myhobbystore were not promoting the exhibition in Model engineer.
I was asked by management to print a list of shows we were attending.
This I did.

The only one I remember in Poole was KLJ machine tools I think.

Some of the items breach copyright.
The Whippet is a straight copy from Model engineer magazine.
Not sure about elmers engines but all the designs are available on yahoo groups.
He is selling Ayesha drawings that are probably copyright Model Engineer as well.

The price fields on the classified adverts (both for sale and wanted) are numeric fields.
 
This means that all you can enter are numbers.
 
3000
will work
 
3,000
will not work
 
3000 ONO
will not work.
 
Stick to round pounds and no pence and no other characters in the field and you should have no problems.

Hi There
I have just (last week) fitted a readout to my Tom Senior mill.
I can now pitch holes out to tight limits till the cows come home.
 
Crud
I just fitted the relevant covers. I found it very easy to fit the slides and the head.
All you need is a bit of care.
 
Cutting fluids
It seems to work fine but I doubt I will use more than a brushful of oil.
 
Dials can easily by read to less than a thou.
You can easily guess to 1/2 a thou and probably a lot more accurate.
 
Not sure what you mean by Handraulic?
 
Readouts and digital equipment are reasonably accurate but they usually read
to the nearest 1/2 thou. Micrometers can read to tenths of a thou if you get the micrometer with the correct scale. If you need to work to anything less than a tenth of a thou then a digital mike is essential. (And yes, I have had to do this sometimes.) Would not want the agro now though.
 
I am a firm believer that if we did not give designers computers, we would not have to work to such tight limits as they could not design to such tight tolerances.

The Sandvik book will only be suitablefor commerical machines.
Small lathes are not rigid enough to withstand recomended speeds.
 
I would use a fine feed and a reasonably high speed. Certainly no more
than 1000 revs.
 
Finish might be down to the material.
Are you using a freecutting mild steel or any old crap lying around?

Hi there
Just with many years working in industry, I never really found the need for accurate working with a read out on the lathe.
I would prefer not to rely on a readout for turning.
Usually I was working so accurately that a readout was unreliable.
 
To work to tenths of a thou, I prefered to cut, measure and move to finished size.
Trying to finish to a tenth with a read out was a waste of time.

Some tolerate model engineers.
If lorries with long lengths of steel start turning up,
they might report you to the council for running a business.
