Thread: Water outlet
10/08/2022 16:24:52

Hi all

I need to fit two 14 mm brass bushes to a cold water brass tank. These are to take the outlet fitting and a drain cock. Soldering is not an option as I think the bottom of the tank is soft soldered and trying to heat such a large tank would lead to disaster. Options at the moment are making a tight fit and using lock tight or G B weld. My largest thread tap is 12 mm so to small for this. Any better ideas.

I have a Black and Decker KR100RE 1000W hammer drill. Drill works fine but chuck is knackered. First problem is I cannot remove the chuck. I have taken out the screw which holds it on but chuck still not moving. Second problem is finding a stockist for spare parts. Do I have to think of buying a new one, I hope not as this has been a good drill up to now.

Any ideas folkes.

Thanks for info Andrew. Made my mind up to buy the Scheppach, will probable try some of the mods mentioned also.

Thinking on the lines of a very strong magnet in the airflow , would not stop cooling of the motor but would stop any steel particles getting past .

Andrew

As I plan to buy one of these in the next two weeks could you please clarify your last sentence.

Apparently the cheaper Ferrex is not so good and I think the dust extraction on this one is suspect. By this one are you still talking about the Ferrex.

I already have a cheap plastic belt from RDG that is why I need to replace it. I would rather fit a link belt than attempt to take the machine apart and risk upsetting the settings. I looked at RS but I have no idea how the belts dimensions are taken , and as I could see no mention of what belt would fit a Myford how can I order one.

Thanks for replies anyway , but I am none the wiser. Mike

I need to replace the head stock drive belt on my Super 7 with a Fenner link belt.

I have found a company called lathe spares online who have one for about 23 pounds but they do not take pay-pal and I am reluctant to give out my credit card details. Anybody used this company or could give me an alternative.

Hi all

I am in the process of restoring a powered hacksaw, and now need to order a 35 cm blade for it. I will be mainly cutting large pieces of aluminium and brass , with only the occasional piece of steel. Would a 10 tpi blade be suitable.

Thread: Cutting up bits of metal
17/11/2021 14:41:54

006.jpg005.jpg004.jpg003.jpgThis is my powered hacksaw, not the best looking machine I have made but it does the job. Needs about 5 amp @ 12 volt which I get from my 30 amp power supply. When I first tried it it tended to jam, especially on aluminium , I soon discovered that it works much better with the blade reversed , cutting on the backward stroke. It has never jammed since but it does benefit from a little lubrication when cutting softer material.

I have a standard 12 inch hacksaw driven by a 12 volt windscreen wiper motor. Been using it for over 5 years to cut all my large pieces of stock metal . Has a fast stroke, much faster than I could saw. Some of the thicker pieces can take up to half an hour to cut, but I do not have to be present as it has automatic stop when the job is done.

Ignatz

Yes , you use the screws you highlighted to adjust belt tension.

Two grub screws with lock nuts that rest on top of the shaft that holds the belt tension lever.

Thread: Bench grinder

Many thanks for all replies.

I could not find any sort of centrifugal switch so I assume it must be the capacitor. Although this component showed no sign of damage, when I put my meter on the terminals it measured zero volts. Anyway I have ordered a new one so hopefully that should sort it .

Hi all

I have a Erbauer 8 inch bench grinder model ERB8DLC that has developed this fault. On switch on the grinder makes a very loud hum and struggles to get turning. This started about 8 months ago. I have found that if I spin the wheel by hand first then turn it on it picks up speed much quieter . Once it is up to speed it works just fine. Would this indicate a fault with the run capacitor, if so is it an easy fix. Or would it possibly be what I believe is called the run switch on the shaft.

As I say , once running its fine so reluctant to replace if its fixable.

Cheers Mike
