Thread: Tapping M2 thread in plastic - which? |

How do you think aeroplanes are made ? Plastic screws to hold the wings on?? Careful selection of the galvanic reaction between dissimilar metals is the solution. Many years ago, the norm was steel screws cadmium plated and passivated. I do not know what is used these days, but the answer I suspect is well known in the aircraft industry. Bob where i work its mainly stainless screws and nearly all tapped holes in ally are inserted. the inserts are usually coated with something before fitting. don't see much corrosion. |

I think being a "foreigner" I'm misunderstanding this. As I read it there was a serious traffic jam for over an hour and some people decided to while away the time playing a small game of cricket. Is that so very bad? Were they actually affecting anyone else given that the traffic was all jammed up anyway? (I don't get the impression they caused the jam). What am I missing? Hi All,
This got me thinking , would a brake servo device help to reduce the pedal effort required? I remember remote brake servo kits being advertised in 1970s car magazines ,the Girling Powerstop being one unit I remember. Does anyone have first hand experience of such devices and is there any reason why a remote add on brake servo unit wouldn't work in a hydraulic clutch application? the tv program car sos did this on a mk1 zodiac |

You can get oiled plugs to fire (Chrysler 180) by pulling the lead off the offending plug about a 1/4", the extended spark ups the voltage no end, the down side is you might twitch a bit and you will need a new coil at some point soon.
but only if you sprinkle magic pixie dust over the engine |

Here is what you pay for a standard industrial quality drill press these days. LINK -- about 2,300 Quid. Yes you read that right, 2,300 Quid for a half-inch, bench mounted standard industrial quality drill press. Nothing fancy. So when your 100 Quid hobby drill is less than perfect, start saving the extra 2,200 Quid for a proper one

Chris you are quite right .0005" is neither here nor there but the guy asked a question. BTW even NASA & NPL should only use tight tolerances where appropriate. Tony and when they do its with very expensive equipment that's regularly calibrated |

Dave,
Many years ago I had an Airfix (I think it was Airfix) plastic beam engine powered by a small electric motor. It ran, and it squeeked like mad! I miss that little engine. i made one of them too |

Begs the question what should a model engineering magazine smell of? I'd like it to be a 50:50 mix of Welsh Steam Coal smoke and hot oil. Definitely shouldn't smell of either Teen Spirit or Old Fart! Dave i will go for hot oil, petrol. oooh i am the last one on your list |

with so many variables i doubt that the optimum pressure is obtainable with any machine to be found in our type of workshop. mine is not even adjustable and is never a problem. i just put the job in the saw walk away and do something else. |
