There is a smallish precision / capstan non-thread cutting lathe on ebay in the wrong category - surveying equipment?

I would certainly look at getting them to dealer or collector. Too much historical stuff is being scrapped as it is.
Value depends on model (I assume it's a 1907), make, age and condition but likely to be in tens of pounds, not scrap value. You can buy scabbards on ebay but they won't let you sell the bayonet.

The lathe listing is agiasnt ebay rules because it avoids their fees with contact info in the listing and is not a tangible item. The say "membership" starts at £1 a day but are charging £95 for a month. it's not at all clear exactly what you get for that. I'm sure the won't let anybody use a lathe 24/7 for a month for £95.

This sort of fee avoidance is common with car brakers, the list the car and then say £1 for a wheel nut or similar and gives a phone number to call if you want anything else.

Hot melt glue makes a good alternative to pitch.

An abrasive / diamond disk should cut the glass scale without issues. Make sure that if it has an index mark that you don't cut that end off.

Anyone who thinks leaving the EU will relax environmental legislation is deluding themselves. Firstyl most are based on international agreements, not just the EU. Second companies will still have to comply with EU rules if they want to trade with the EU and they are not going to make two versions of the same product.

It looks like a Myford ML4 to me. Do you hav the tailstock or any other bits for it?

If not excessively worn it's a capable little lathe.

An earlier copy of "The Amateurs Lathe" by L Sparey is also a good reference for this class of lathe.

I have a ML2 but it has been over a year since I've done anything to it due to other pressures.

You should report it to ebay and ask for a refund for item not as described. This type of seller does not care about feedback. They do care about not getting their money. Selling it as a "Mitetoyo" is OK, buyer beware, but putting Mitutoyo in the titile and description is fraud. If people don't complain ebay won't do anything.

Hydrogen to be exact. Water (H2O) + Iron (Fe) = Rust (Fe2O3) leaving Hydrogen (H2).

Not just loudspeakers, but that as a common appliction. Used in all sorts of wooden cabinets with mechanical fixings. The one pictured is a bit long for loudspeakers.
There are similar looking wood screws with a different "thread" on the shank that is supposed to reduce the driving torque when installing but keeping the screw tight when installed..

This is a RoHS problem.

Several years ago the addition of mercury to batteries was banned. The old Duracell and Energizer alkalines had a small amount of mercury which aided recombination of hydrogen which is produced in the cell. Thse cells had a leakproof warranty. When the mercury was removed so was the warranty. The mercury free cells tended to leak even when not left flat. In the last few of years they seem to have solved the problem. Certainly in the USA Energizer have brought the warrty back. I have 20 year old cells that are fine but 5 or six year ones that have leaked. Recent ones seem to be OK for both brands.

Normal cleaning of the motor is fine. Remove surface rust from the rotor but dont worry about making it pretty. For the laminations in the stator I'd just use a nylon brush to remove loose material. You must be careful not to damage the insulation on the windings.

This won't work as an internal pulller unless the race is in a blind hole ot you can bolt a support across the back of it

It amazes me how many people can't shop on their own. Went to the village store (Tesco Extra, yes it's the only food shop in the village) to pick up the wife's medication and some essentials last night. In self chck out there was couple with a child in a stroller. Just one basket and most of that was alcohol! Utter stupidity.

The plan was never to have total loss of tranmission / lockdown. The idea is to slow the infection rate so the NHS can cope. Same number of cases but spread over longer period. You have to have some transmission for this to work. If you had totl lockdown you would have zero new infections and then when you let pople out the number of cases would be just as bad as if you had done nothing and he NHS would still be overwhelmed.

While walking the dog and getting my exercise yesterday I noticed what appeared to be a young man in he childrens play area. wandering over (no closer than about 15ft) I discovered a man, toddler and obviously pregnant woman on the paly equipment. I pointed out the area as closed and the signs. The Man was totally dismissive, "I'll be alright" clearly no understanding of transmission or care about anyone else. They commented on my being out and I said walking, the dog, exercising, keeping my distance and not touching anything.

I think essential checks on club facilities, if alone and subsituted or combined with that days exercise, is reasonable. Needs to be only ONE member doing it though. If every member checked or there was a rota that is a classic cross contaminaion case.

An effective, safe fungicide is benzalkonium chloride. This is used for everything from eye drops to patio cleaner. Dettol dishwasher cleaner is a good low volume source. It works well on sensitive surfaces. Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorate solution) most certainly DOES kill fungal growth and inactivates spores. It also bleaches any colour deposits. The disadvantage is that it causes corrosion.
Killling and removing the fungus may not restore the surface finish. Chemicals secreted by the fungus can etch or corrode the surface causing damage that has to be repaired by re-finishing or polishing. Fungus won't grow on aluminium but it will grow on contamination on surface, even finger prints. Th secretions can still etch the aluminum giving the impression that the fungus "eat" it.
