To all you 70 yr old weaklings out there : Build a lifting platform as I did, problem solved ! Best thing I ever made ! Details in my album and made from cheapy cheapy stuff. Big milling vises/ rotary tables/ big chucks / loading car/van ? all the same to it. Does wonders for the back too ! |

Good man Duncan !, could not have put it better myself !! My cooking is so bad that it would make no difference anyway, so why bother. |
Thread: Speed control |

Chinese drill with an 1850 watt motor and that speed range ? Unusual ? And yes,580 would be a bit fast for 5/8" or above, I would be thinking something around 300 max, or even less. I have a cheap Aldi bench drill, 1/2 HP motor which has no problem handling 1/2" drills, anything bigger I use the floor standing drill, again 1/2 HP or the mill 1-5 HP. Pullies would seem to be the way to go. |
12/04/2022 13:31:06 |
Why not use simple pullies and belt, plus a low speed motor ? |

Thread: April questions---for one day only. |

Nice to get a new angle on these things, but how much is true ? I think some of it is a bit rough, but maybe thats the drill. |
Thread: What adhesive - that shrinks when it sets - do you recommend for melamine laminate sheets? |
31/03/2022 12:58:59 |
The glue I used years ago was called "Cascamite", and it did exactly what it said on the tin [or sack, in my case ] I t was cheap, simple to use, and never failed. I used it to bond plastic laminate to chipboard and mdf board and for wood -to-wood joints. For sheet work, I used a rubber roller, being faster and giving a better spread. Dont know if it is still around, I no longer do that work, but it might be worth looking into. As I remember, it was made by Borden Chemical Co. Might not be what you are seeking, but worth a try. |

Tried to include more photos but seems that camera and computer are not talking to each other, or perhaps the link cable is having a bad day. Only one photo uploaded. |

Can anyone identify this holder which I picked up many moons ago and for which I cannot seem to find tips ? The tips in question are about 12mm x 3x 2 and have a raised vee section on the underside which mates up with a vee groove on the holder. I have checked all the ones on Ali Express and none of them seem to suit. |

Thread: Too lazy or too stupid? |
05/03/2022 16:21:19 |
Thinking about Quora, I never knew there were so many stupid people in the World ! The kind of "Questions" asked there are beyond believe, no need to ask where most of them come from ! How to boil an egg ?, yes this would be quite normal. How to clean a shower ?, again quite normal ! How to walk a dog ?, cut the grass, ect,ect ? No wonder people have a "Drink Problem" My Granny used to say, "When those people went to America, years ago, the sea trip did them no good ", Seems like she was right ! |

I remember seeing on "That,s life" there was an Estate Agent named Robin Bastard. I,m not joking, even Ester laughed at it. I often wondered how he stayed in business with a name like that, but perhaps people regarded him as an "Honest" man ? As far as I remember, he was very sucessful, so, what,s in a name ? |
Thread: stuff that came with my lathe ... |
25/02/2022 13:10:04 |
Like others, I think you would be unwise to get rid of any of that stuff. It wont eat anything and it might be better to be looking at it than for it ! Screw cutting is one thing a lathe is great for [think about those odd sized threads LH or RH you might need to cut, sometime ] Make haste SLOWLY !!! |
Thread: recent power outage in Medway |

Clive, my Mother, and many more like her, lived to be 95 and never knew anything other than an open fire. She would not have an electric blanket and regarded radiators as little more than tin boxes on the wall. I am 83 and still do not make much use of my oil heating, one tank full, 1000 lters lasts me for 18 months, mostly used to heat water for showers and sink use.. Get yourself a dog, walk a lot, keep warm, save the Planet ! |
