Thread: Fix my (new) Lathe

If that's the saddle lock I'd leave it as it is, but I would ask for some new wiper felts as those do not look like they will wipe anything.

Hello all

Thanks for the comments and interest in the Howitzer build ,Richard the pak40 would make a very nice model what sort of scale are you thinking of building it in .

Apologies I missed this. blush

Pak 40, not to scale or even 100% accurate. All made from stainless from the scrap tub apart from the nylatron tyres!

17" total length from tip of the muzzle brake to the towing hitch.

Thread: SENIOR Mill for someone?
08/05/2022 22:18:25

Looks work in progress project, table doesn't look long enough for a 2B, motor mount's fabricated, belt drive isn't using gearbox, column, knee and saddle 2B

Thread: Boxford Ball Oilers
17/03/2022 19:39:32

1/4" on my 280. I get the old ones out where I don't have access to the back with a self tapper down the hole then pull.

If you have access to the back of it, knock the oiler out and it may be that the spring has started to come out of the oiler. Wind it back in and tap the bottom with a ball bearing to retain the spring better.

You will probably have to break the old vial to get it out.

This will show you how they come to bits.

Thread: Making a Carriage stop for a lathe
02/03/2022 12:58:21

I have two carriage stops for my lathe, one is std and makes a clutch slip in the apron. The other one I put on the carriage stop which operates a micro switch to add a braked stop from the vfd for when screw cutting.

Thread: How to eject short 2MT from sleeve?
11/02/2022 21:30:16

My running centre is too short to eject in the lathe tailstock, I just araldited a ball bearing onto the end.

Thread: Lathe change gears vs gearbox

Gearbox for me, not only for pitch change ease but also for feed rate as well

You could have BA mixed up with them.

Thread: Harrison 250
12/01/2022 10:53:29

I would certainly leave the bed attached to the stand, but when I moved my old Boxford BUD I removed the headstock, motor, saddle and tailstock so it was easy to get into a Berlingo.

Maybe worth looking into for the Harrison.

Thread: Collet Choice
06/01/2022 19:52:26

I have an ER32 collet set, a Clarkson type chuck and MT collets with my mill.

ER32 - most versatile, can be used with any type of cutter or drill bit (threaded shank or plain).

Clarkson type - most secure tool holding but you need screwed shank cutters in either metric or imperial to suit your collets.

MT collets - best for height, but are not as flexible on sizing as ER collets. i.e. the shank needs to be suited for the collet size.

If you want to take heavy cuts get the Clarkson type, if you want flexibility get the ER, personally unless you have height issues I wouldn't bother with the MT collets.

Thread: Tailstock cuck, keyless or not?
05/01/2022 20:45:58

I have keyless in the lathe (a cheap one), never had a problem with it.

Have a keyed Jacobs in the mill just for the reduced height never had a problem with it.

On my second keyless for the Makita battery drill - chuck slips again!
