I made some more of my coupling rods for my Brit.

Thread: Too many characters when posting

I'm sure this wouldn't apply to your posts, but usually a long post from one person is skipped past unless its really gripped me...

I'd love to see some photos of the BR2, welcome.

Isn't it time time went decimal?

Also, how long until the calendar starts from a date of Astronomical importance rather than of religious significance?

I just tend to buy from ASDA when needed. I've a fair chunk of confidence they will be genuine.

That would be fantastic Gas Mantle. We are over fifty pages now. With Vandalism, as long as those who want things to be right outnumber those who wish to ruin it we should be ok. Vandalism can be undone by reverting to a previous version of each page where required.

Some fantastic input so far, many thanks.

Good points all, I'll look into it. With Wikipedia the veracity of the data is maintained through the sheer numbers of people who want it right compared to those who wish it harm. On a smaller site that balance is harder to maintain.

Thanks for all the support, much appreciated. I will investigate the "backing-up" of the data as thats a very valid point.

I remember when I first started looking at building a steam engine I was blown away by the amount of data spread thinly all over the internet. I managed to glean bits here and there but there wasn't any one place that held all the info. As a result I've started building a Wiki page covering as many locomotives as I can.

Small Live Steam Engines

I intend to cover as many designs as possible, and for those not familiar with Wikis (I apologise to those who are), a Wiki is intended that anyone can edit it with salient information. Therefore although the pages are currently a little thin I am hoping that over time they will grow as those with relevant facts will add them and make a decent database.

The page isn't a forum, it isn't for profit (I don't receive a penny and never will), its just intended to be a useful resource or interesting read. At the moment it is neither of those things, but if anyone fancies editing a page or two (its very simple I promise) or even adding new locomotives, please feel free to do so. I hope it helps people once its fattened up a bit. I'm adding as much as I can as I go, but most of the time what I'm able to add is quite skeletal. If you have any facts to add you would be most welcome.

Thank you, and I apologise if this violates any rule, the Sticky on protocol for this area of the Forum didn't work, but I understand if you need to remove it.

I've always wanted a Curta, but the prices have gone insane.

Ah, but those are SPACE mole grips. Exactly the same as normal mole grips but with a serial number, NSN and a price tag with lots of zeros...

I used to be the manager of the Accident Data Recorder Services dept. at Boscombe Down. They have a large collection of the different types of recorders that have been used over the years (some looking very second hand indeed!), including some that even recorded onto wire as it was more resistant to heat than traditional tape.

Most interesting to me was an accident data recorder that had been recovered from deep ocean water. The individual transistors on the circuit boards had been crushed like recycled cans by the depth/pressure. When they recover the recorders from water they try to keep them wet as the salt crystals only start to form once it has dried out.

Thread: Drawing Copyright - if any?
05/12/2018 20:26:40

My great-grandfathers music has been reprinted and sold by a company whom I once asked where they had got the copyright from. They replied that if I wanted to be difficult about it they would just stop selling his music and his legacy would die; they were quite funny about it. I genuinely hadn't been trying to obtain anything from them, I was just trying to trace more of his original works and any additional info.

It's a complicated subject.

Thread: Interests other than Model Engineering

I enjoy track days in my old Triumph

I'm a National A Stage Rally Navigator, last event was last weekend, 16th overall in an MX5 against much faster kit...

I enjoy mountain biking, but although it should be quite a social hobby I'm always too embarrassed to do with groups of people despite often being asked. I'm missing a leg and the thought of slowing up a group of competent cyclists really worries me, so for now its a solitary pursuit (although my girlfriend often comes along now, which is nice)
