Thread: Damaged mill
20/02/2021 19:05:31

Thats a bummer. Do you have a manual for the mill ? If so the parts list might show if the part is removable.

What mill is it ? Hopefully repairable.

Good luck, regards

A posting above contains the error of spelling there instead of their. This is the third posting I have seen in a week with this error. Come on chaps do check your spelling

On this forum we do not pick up people for spelling or grammar mistakes. We leave that to the pedants in other forums.

Howard WHY do the typos only come to sight as "Add" is ticked?

I think an Irish gentleman by the name of Murphy has something to do with it Howard. smiley

Thaks for the link Gray. I had a quick look but will need to study it further when I get a spare half hour.

Simple but effective Nicholas. I keep mine on a shelf attached to the splash back at the minute.

The 3D printed hangers are a great idea. I believe there are a lot of designs on Thingiverse that can be downloaded for the 3D printer. A 3D printer would be handy but do I really want to get into another tech stream at my age?

I need to find someone with a good 3D printer locally and have some made.

Thread: TOPIC VARIETY
19/02/2021 17:55:35

I must agree. I very rarely look at "which one" or "did I do ok buying this" threads.

I am still of the opinion that there should be sticky posts that lay out the "what to look for", "Imperial v Metric" & "Chinese v Others" that new members can browse through and get some ideas before starting a post for advise. If they do ask a question they can be directed to that post before members have to go into a long drawn out post giving the same advise they gave to 2 others last week.

Thread: What about a "like" button on the forum?

I would not use a like button. The more likes people get the more inflated their ego gets.

No three phase to the Garage and a distinct absence of headroom for the mill, alas!

No problems are insurmountable Tom. A phase converter and a hole in the floor come to mind. smileywink

Thread: Wavy Parallels
18/02/2021 18:42:47
Posted by Rod Renshaw on 18/02/2021 18:25:54:

Hi Clay

In addition to the use described above by Oldiron, it is useful sometimes to use accurate "normal" parallels to rest the work on, and use slightly lower wavy parallels between the normal parallels to keep the normal parallels from toppling over.

Rod

In the absence of wavy parallels a piece of foam rubber makes a good substitute for that purpose.

Hi Clay. Wavy parallels are very handy for use with thin work pieces as they will deform within reason to the width needed.

Thread: Sad News : John Wilding

Condolences to John's family. It is always a major blow to a community when one of it's pioneers and most knowledgable members passes. It is good that many of his skills have been saved in his books.

Thread: Jacobs Chuck run out
16/02/2021 17:16:17

If you are mearuring the runout on the chuck body it means nothing. The runout needs to be checked with a dowel pin or similar in the chuck. You dont say how the chuck is mounted.
