I am currently trying to make a sale model of a Ransomes Class A Thrasher. The Model requires 2 x 3" wheels and 2 x 4" Wheels. The Plan shows the Wheel section to be Tee shaped with the spokes then attached to either side of the base line of the Tee. Can any one give me a source to find these 3 and 4" Rings Without the necesary rings it would seem I may have to turn them from a solid bar. Any suggestions would be much apreciated Thank you Malcolm Farrant |

I am just completing the ME Beam Engine, and thought it would be an interesting project to make a Model that the Beam Engine could run. The Only item I have found is the Ransome Class A Thrasher. I bought a set of 10 Plans from Sarik (who were excellent to deal with). My question is have any of you made this model? if so what advice or information can you share with me. Equally can anyone suggestother Models that the Beam engine could run. It seems a pity just to having it oprating on its own. Very best wishes to all you Model Makers MalcolM Farrant (Roskrow) |

I am at a loss to understand the two Pipe connections on the Water Pump. One comes from the underside of the casting, and the other from the top. Both then go thru the aluminium base-plate. However I can find nothing that tells me what then happens to them. Obviously they must connect to something, but what ?. No doubt I am being stupid, but PLEASE can someone enlighten me. In anticipation many thanks, and my hopes that 2021 will be a better year for us all. Best wishes Malcolm Farrant (Roskrow) |
Thread: Mild Steel Problems |
25/08/2020 11:42:36 |
I have recently been trying to drill small holes (5/16) in mild steel. I have had 2 occasions where I have attempted to drill, but then hit a patch of steel that is so hard that nothing will touch it. I have tried Carbide drill bits, bur even these have difficulty. Is the available steel rubbish or what am I not doing. It is becomig expensive !!! Any tips to assist me ? Many thanks Malcolm Farrant |

Thread: ME Vertical Boiler - Cap Exhausat (BF12) |
26/01/2020 11:54:44 |
Thanks, that now makes sense. Best wishes Malcolm |
25/01/2020 17:11:06 |
I have nearly complerted the ME Vertical Boiler, but am confused. BF12 - The Cap Exhaust fitting is fitted to the Smokebox cap with the small pipe bent up into the chimney. Done, and understood, BUT the other end - on the top of the Smokebox Cap seems to have just an open end. ...My question is that all there is to it or does the top portion then connect elswhere. I can find no information other than the fitting and bending the tube into the Chimney. There is a hedding in issue 4608 "Installing the Cap Exhaust fitting." Any advice and information much aprecxiated Malcolm Farrant |
Thread: ME Beam Engine - GEARS |
04/01/2020 10:25:36 |
Good morning to you all and a Happy New Year.. My apologies for not replying sooner, but Christmas etc. has blocked my brain !!. Anyway thank you all VERY much for your responses. I think at my age (82+) I will not attempt gear cutting....1 error and I would have to start agin. Therefore I will, when needed, get the gears from A J Reeves. An expensive option, but safe. Thank you all again. best wishes. Malcolm Farrant

I am very happy to provide the Reeves casting to anyne or supplier who can help me. I will of course pay for any work done ! Thank you, Malcolm Farrant |
