Looks like your lathe is on wheels,is this correct?

Like everything else,taps and dies come in different specks. I have never used anything other than industrial standard items,but that,s because I never knew anything else. We were supplied with them to carry out our work,so I never knew there was any other quality,now I know different !

I have no time for solid dies,only ever use split dies,likewise,have no time for carbon taps or dies. Buy proper HSS taps and dies and just get on with it. Stainless steel can be a bitch to machine in any shape or form !

The browser I,m using is Google Chrome and I think the system is Windows 8 or 10 [that,s how little I know about these things ] The suppliers website seems to have been working OK,the problem appears to have been at my end. This is the first time I even encountered anything like this,which is why I could not understand it.

It might be a good idea to install another browser,as suggested.

By the way,the supplier I was dealing with is called"UK Drills"from whom I have bought several MT large size drills,18mm upwards and found them to be good quality and fair price. No connection,just satisfied ! They do quite a large range of drills,taps,ect. Worth a look.

My Lux mill has an MT spindle system,works fine but if I was buying again,I would go for the R8 system. Much better grip and less overhang, This is known as "Hindsight",very useful if you have it in advance !

Kids in shops and stores these days dont even know that there was another system in use in "Olden Times".

In fact,they dont even understand the system they have !

Talking about wood sizes,soft wood is measured in Metric,but hard wood is sold in Imperial sizes. It appears that hard wood is traded in American Dollars and they still use Sq feet and Sq inches,no matter where the timber ends up.

What did I do today ? Not a lot ! but will give it Hell tomorrow !

Seems there was a loose cannon in the system,had to get on to my Broadband supplier to sort it out,and much to my surprise,they did ! I think I may have too much junk on board,they advised to clear it out and start again.

I need my laptop ,it,s either that or look at telly,God forbid ! With that kind of a choice,there,s no choice !

I have had a strange experience recently while trying to buy from a supplier,from whom I have bought before,with no problem.

This time around,I was unable to proceed to the checkout,having completed my order.When I pressed the checkout box,it simply changed colour from black to yellow,and that was it !,could go no further.

Tried it several times,no go. Emailed the supplier,who assured me that the web page is working as usual,and had no idea what was wrong.

Have any of you got any ideas on this or how to go about correcting it ? I have no idea what I did different this time around,but while the web page shows up,I do not seem to be getting a connection.

I glad I own a diesel,I dont think I could handle all that. I hate to think what might happen if I decided to change my glow plugs !!!!

Some time ago,I came across an article about using an adjustable boring head for taper turning.The idea was to be able to leave the tailstock undisturbed while setting the offset using the boring head. Now,it seems to me that the boring head would need to be setup so that it would be horizontal,dead on. The article did not explain how to achieve this.Has anyone out there used this system before,or have any ideas how to go about it? I prefer to leave the tail stock alone,if I can,too much messing to get it right again.

Do you mean that they really calculate these bills ? I thought they just took a number out of the air and doubled it.

I have a 10hp Transwave rotary converter \nd it runs EVERYTHING in the shop,no messing about. 12"X9" planer,4hp spindle moulder,3hp band saw,lathe,milling machine,the lot !,sometimes two or three machines at the same time.

I used plastic foam sheeting about 10mm thick,cheap,simple and kind to drills/cutters ect.

Also,offcuts of 20mm plastic tube [conduit ] for some of my bigger drills,one end plugged.

Just an idea !

If you are going to make your own cutters,make two of them. Spindle moulder cutters are always supplied in pairs,for good reason. Any imbalance will show up very quickly and spindle moulders are very unforgiving machines.

That saw blade reminds me of my Mother-in-law !

Three phase has certain advantages,so I would go for a converter.. You never know when you will come across another good machine [3 Phase ],and then,you can use straight away,no messing ! 3 phase motors are better than single phase,any day.

Just drain it every day no big deal.
