I have had a strange experience recently while trying to buy from a supplier, from whom I have bought before, with no problem.

This time around,I was unable to proceed to the checkout, having completed my order. When I pressed the checkout box,it simply changed colour from black to yellow, and that was it !,could go no further.

Tried it several times,no go. Emailed the supplier, who assured me that the web page is working as usual, and had no idea what was wrong.

Have any of you got any ideas on this or how to go about correcting it ? I have no idea what I did different this time around, but while the web page shows up,I do not seem to be getting a connection.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Graham,

Seems there was a loose cannon in the system, had to get on to my Broadband supplier to sort it out,and much to my surprise, they did ! I think I may have too much junk on board, they advised to clear it out and start again.

I need my laptop ,it,s either that or look at telly,God forbid ! With that kind of a choice, there,s no choice !

Happy new year to all.

It might be a related to the browser you are using (which you didn't state) and whatever settings you have in the browser.

For example my settings in Firefox do not allow sites to run scripts on my machine. Nor does it allow a website to transfer off site to another page both of which are prudent security techniques. Either may produce the kind of effect you are seeing though in legitimate situations (you pay's your money and you takes your choice). Check to make sure there isn't an information bar popping up - usually under the status bar - with an explanation and/or optional action.

Failing that, it's handy to have another browser installed to test cases like this. Since I use FF, I also have IE installed (it's hard to get rid of) and some of the settings are a little looser on that (since I only use it for such tests). In this case, if there were no other options I would try that.

Wholesale removal of "stuff" sounds a bit drastic with no guarantee it will solve anything. Rather reminiscent of the tech support standard "re-install windows".

Larry, it would ease folks offering to help, if we knew your operating system, browser, and supplier's website that you were having issues with.
At the moment, I'm thinking cookies or popup blocker.

Hi everyone,

The browser I,m using is Google Chrome and I think the system is Windows 8 or 10 [that,s how little I know about these things ] The suppliers website seems to have been working OK,the problem appears to have been at my end. This is the first time I even encountered anything like this, which is why I could not understand it.

It might be a good idea to install another browser,as suggested.

By the way,the supplier I was dealing with is called"UK Drills"from whom I have bought several MT large size drills,18mm upwards and found them to be good quality and fair price. No connection, just satisfied ! They do quite a large range of drills, taps, ect. Worth a look.

Larry, try clearing the browser cache and cookies. There is probably something stuck in there from a previous session. I don't use Chrome myself, prefer Firefox, the "how to" should come up in a quick Google search.

Are you sure you don't already have Internet Explorer if you are running windows? It is installed with Windows and you would have had to make a determined (and probably unsuccessful) attempt to uninstall it. Most installations that use an alternative browser simply install it in addition to IE.

Larry, try clearing the browser cache and cookies.

Clearing the cache is fine (with modern internet speeds, I don't even run one in the first place). But wholesale clearing of cookies - which is often seen recommended - must be one of the worst pieces of advice going. It truly is throwing the baby out with the bath water since you will lose many, valuable cookies associated with other, much more important sites (such as banks etc) and have to set everything up again.
