Thread: Faulty LED |

Perhaps the new lamp is faulty. |
Thread: Barrier Cream |
16/07/2019 15:04:26 |
There is a preservative used in cosmetics, including soaps, shampoos etc called methylisothiazolinone which can cause skin problems. We've had to stop allowing it in our house as we both started suffering from cracked/dry skin. A web search will bring up lots of reports but I have only included the Wiki link here as there are links there as well. Wikipedia here **LINK**

Thread: Recent threads |

I think it is difficult to be non-offending to everyone due to the nature of us all. In the recent past I have been politely told off for a reply I posted which was, in hindsight, deserved. At the time of posting I had come from a different forum which sometimes needs a lot of tongue biting so had my sarcastic head on. This of course was not needed here but until it is pointed out I was oblivious too. Writing in public I believe requires the same rules as cutting something - measure twice, cut once or type it, read it, digest it and if you're happy with it, then post it. Brian |
Thread: air blast cooling for mill - solenoid control ? |
12/07/2019 19:51:24 |
I would run it through a separate power relay. If the solenoid coil fails it could pull down the motor as well. |
Thread: Drawing for a miniature quarter turn valve |
23/06/2019 21:28:53 |
Are you looking for construction drawings or layout drawings, also what size miniature? Basic valve layout/data .... **LINK** Edited By Brian Sweeting on 23/06/2019 21:29:20 |
Thread: RequiredOutside Diameter to Cut 5/16 BSF Thread |

Sometimes known as the major diameter IIRC. Table here **LINK** |
Thread: New member intro! |
18/06/2019 00:02:16 |
Ah, dear Sharjah. I worked on the HVAC systems at the airport in the mid 70s. Interesting places compared with the UK. Welcome to the forum Arsath. |
Thread: tallow sticks |
06/06/2019 16:04:31 |
You can get tubs of tallow from places like Amazon. Fill the hole with a spatula of some sort. |
Thread: 1959 Nsu quickly |
30/04/2019 17:46:41 |
And this has something to do with model engineering or am I missing something important? This is also ignoring the fact that only a limited age range of members will understand "NSU Quickly". |
Thread: Big Machines |

Thank you. |
Thread: The Chocolate Fireguard as designed by Mercedes Benz |

Since everyone seems to be having a moan. Can I complain about the ever increasing number of complete arseholes that don't use their handbrake when stopped at junctions and traffic lights, but keep their foot on the brake pedal. Thereby shining their head-level brake lights into my face! Aaah, they must be the ones who haven't read the Highway Code then. |

Still surprising to see folk driving in pitch black without their lights on, or conversely driving what looks like a stage light show when its dusk.
I put that down to the way dashboards are permanently illuminated now. If they couldn't see the dials then they would turn their lights on, hopefully. |

Suitable sized drill bit hand turned? |
Thread: gland packing |

Depending on the service I would suggest graphite tape. Source here **LINK** (No connection) |
Thread: Dialect expressions |

After working in and moving to Devon came across... Where you to? As in, where do you come from/live? Back along. As in, a while ago. |
Thread: French Mystery Tool |
11/04/2019 22:15:00 |
Are we unique I wonder? We travel around and buy odd bits of metal that have no obvious use to us but whose sole purpose is to start a debate down the pub on a quiet afternoon. |
Thread: Is there a way to mask silver solder |
08/04/2019 13:46:49 |
Try Tippex. |
Thread: AC Capacitor |
05/04/2019 16:18:42 |
Thank you for the update, always good to know when a problem is resolved. |
Thread: Using a propane cylinder for partable compressed air. |
04/04/2019 16:41:12 |
Your cylinder should have the test pressure stamped on it somewhere. It's probably a low pressure cylinder so the test pressure would have been around 480 - 500 psig. |
Thread: Electric Motor |
03/04/2019 20:53:25 |
Having read the writeup on lathes.co I think it is refering to early electric motors. It should be remembered that every motor start generates heat and the motor needs to run for a reasonable time to dissipate that heat. Frequent stop/starts will kill a motor over time. Also a motor running without a load will often run at above full load current which is not good for the motor. |
