Thread: Lazer printer |

Note that laser printers do not give good results when printing photos. Note that SOME do not give good results. Mine are good enough to go on the wall for £223. If the printer is spec'd to take glossy paper of a decent weight (and you have set the paper weight accordingly) and the write-up spiel talks about presentation documents then it will deliver decent prints. |

I have a Xerox Phaser 6510 colour laser (LED really as are all budget printers) Good as gold and prints decent colour photos.. Just one thing to remember when you buy a pattern refill and the printer asks if this is a genuine cartridge tell the truth and reply NO! deny it by saying yes and the printer will lock the refill out till you buy a very expensive genuine one. Pattern parts are ok , but counterfeit ones are illegal. |

I want to buy a large TCT blade to cut steel. I found the Evolution brand and I wonder if it is any good. There are many positive reviews but also cases when people complain that after a few cuts the blade didn't work anymore. Or are there better alternatives? The saw shown in the link is good for 1/2" (13MM) steel plate, but how will you feed the plate. It sounds more like a plasma cutter job. |

Hi It's painted dark green, but underneath it appears to be the Myford grey, where the green is flaking off. The green also appears to be brush painted in places where its flaking. Thanks You get flaking either where people find sanding too much like hard work or ditto for degreasing. My old Rockwell was dark blue over the original grey and 90% of it was easily scrape-able with a blunt screwdriver blade. |

Thread: Are dividing head tables generic or specific to maker? |
29/07/2023 14:43:20 |
It's fair to say that some rotary tables have been supplied with bad printed dividing tables by the makers. It's also fair to suspect that the same dividing plates end up on BS0 heads. Which explains why the internet has so many tables available Personally I wouldn't trust any supplied tables and I always run a complete gear marking each position with a felt tip before fitting a cutter. It's tedious, but a lot less so than messing up a gear cut. |
Thread: Webmite Remote Watering System |

My garden pots and greenhouse gets drip watered to each pot with a battery powered timer fitted to the outside tap which for my very little money spent is perfect. This Webmite is a bit like 'Alexa turn on first light' complication for the sake of it. |

Second for gun quoin - used to raise and lower the elevation of the barrel. For its size and the taper on the sides quite possibly from a ships canon? Try googling "gun quoin". Edited By Bizibilder on 27/07/2023 16:19:27 Agreed Butter patters are much lighter and ridged.

Have you never turned any square or hex material Dave? I don't find it a problem with cabide and have also used a turning tool in a flycutter with no problem. Nope, but I have used them unknowingly for milling, you get the below effect on En3 after a couple of slots. Insert supplied with the holder both alledged to be Seco. I have since used a proper milling insert in the same cutter to widen a lantern tool post which still looks like new. |
Thread: Sheet Metalwork |

Be careful, I bought an 300mm Axminster one and left it boxed for a year, DUH. Nothing was quite right, the casting machining was off so long bends are still a little off after fettling as one side operates before the other. On the plus side they will roll 3" wide 3mm steel with lots of runs even if the gears are way off meshing. |

I think they are an iso insert SPKN is the geometry which is an older style of insert so similar to Sandvik SPKN 1204 ED R or L SPKN =geometry 12 = size of the square 04 = thickness this can vary 03, 04, 05 ED = makers designation for the ground facets ( I think) R or L = right or left hand then add the ISO grade of carbide you require eg K20, P40, P20, etc if you cant get the correct thickness you can always shim between the clamp screw and the insert, you can also use any square insert that will fit in the pocket of the cutter including turning inserts which are much cheaper than ground facet milling inserts hope this helps
Colin Turning inserts are cheaper because 90% of them are unable to take intermittant cuts, they are cheaper but they chip won't last. |

The book I linked to is actually an extremely good SF yarn. which should appeal to most-all of those with an gengineering mindset. I certainly enjoyed it In further Interweb related adventures, I've just finished watching a Panorama program about EVs. It was quite interesting, even if dumbed down like all television programs are. In it, they say that National Grid reckon that EVs will increase overall electricity consumption by 10%, which is fairly trivial. They also say that the end date for sale of hybrid vehickes will be 2035. I like that, since plug-in hybrids seem to tick all the boxes if the price can be competitive. They say that, but there's service station with 20 Tesla chargers installed now that won't be connected till the Autumn + the odd windfarm in the same boat. So it's all trivial and also 10% missing. |
Thread: How to sale dads stuff |
24/07/2023 19:05:17 |
Auctions need time to generate interest, so ensure you stuff gets in the catalogue in good time. Don't rush in your entry in at the last minute as you may only get one bidder that way. |
Thread: Is it possible to use leisure batteries |

Caravan motor movers are powered from the leisure battery so yes, how long for is another issue, but they are more suitable for deep discharge than a normal car battery. |

and to think that the original air-cooled VW Beetle had no Oil Filter (it did have an Oil Cooler). Neither did the very first versions of 1955 Chevy 265cu v8, first with fancy overhead valves and no still no oil filter. |
