Hi All,

Can you kinldy help on directing me on whats Oil / Grease I can buy what are the equivalent to the old sepc oils / greases as noted in the manuals (Beaver Mill & Smart & Brown Lathe)

MILLER

- Shell Vitrea 33

- Shell Macoma 75

- Alvania 2

LATHE

- Mobil DTE Light Oil

- Castrol XL

On both machines there are grease nipples, is there a grease gun that you can buy whcih is slef filling? i.e that does't use the grease catridge tubes?

Just because it looks like a grease nipple doesn't mean it is for grease - RTM. smile

Castrol XL was multigrade engine oil from 1900 and frozen to death still available on ebay at £15 per L

PS you can refill cartridge grease guns

The machine may have grease nipples, but in some cases, putting grease through them can be BAD news. The grease will solidify, so that the oilway is blocked and the bearing gets no lubrication.

It may well be that the correct lubricant for that particular point should be oil.

If you need an oil gun, I can recommend a Rielang, may seem costly, but does not leak and works at almost any angle.
