Thread: road roller kit |

Not knowing what type of roller your looking for, Mamod do a kit for around £130, if you fancy paying for something better google D.R.Mercer not cheap but good model. Alternatively what I have done in the past with the youngsters is to buy old and tatty mamod roller on ebay then get the youngster to strip them clean them up if required I've repainted and then fet them to rebuild the engine. Hi Micheal
What I've done in the past is take a pic of drawing for (quick view) with phone you can then zoom the image or long term take pictures with digital camera then load it on pc , then in my case I use paint shop pro to enlarge the photo and then print or just take certain parts of the photo enlarge and print those ! Cheers H PS Is this the John Haining APRIL Roller if so I may still have digitised copies on a cd that's if I haven't thrown it out as I no longer have my 2'' , |

Now, that takes real skill! An apprentice, a hammer, file and cold chisel, Birmingham comes to mind JA The mention of Birmingham reminds me of some years back when I worked for Elkintons the silversmith's had transfered from Birmingham to Walsall (hence the connection) and every Friday afternoon the apprentice silversmiths would disfigure any silverware that could not be 'repaired' with the above tools mainly the hammer H

I am 70 and when at school it was so easy to smoke. The headmaster used to send me to the local shop for his fags .Us lads would pool our money and I would buy us 4 Domino fags in a paper sleve folded over and taped down with a domino on the front, dose anyone remember them.I stopped smoking at 21 when taking up swimming after a 6 year break I could not swim across the pool without struggling for breath.I stopped immediatly and have never touched one since. Frank Yes I remember Domino used to bunk over the school fence to buy them at the little shop next to my school XD 351 I smoked until 28th Dec 2005 when I had a massive heart attack it was 3 days before I was back in the land of the living and didn't even think of having a fag at the time and have never bothered since but when I came out of the hospital for a couple of weeks I stil picked up my fags and lighter as I left the house H |

Have you tried the HSS drllls Andy ?
Cheers H They're just basic HSS hole drillers and work fine (5mm only so far) The ones I'm hoping work well are the masonry ones which look well made, a carbide tipped drill can be a ME "lifesaver" at times MichaelG Don't forget that most Lidl stuff has a guarantee(up to 3 years) so if it breaks you can at least get your cash back the next time you go shopping Again thanks for the info
Cheers H

Alternatively ... Drill them on the milling machine [or even the drill, if it's really good]; clamped between two pates, each with a bored hole about 2/3 of the ball diameter. MichaelG. I too have used Michael's method worked OK for me H |

Duncan your not far wrong the present system is not without problems and many miniature traction engine owner's have been turned away from the post office because they didn't have a M.O.T also the DVLA have told owner's they need to visit a M.O.T depot to obtain this or that document H |

Thread: 3 pole or 4 pole for a reversing switch? |

I use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QS-30-Drum-Switch-Forward-Off-Reverse-Motor-Control-Water-Resistant-30-Amp-UR-/371706951395?hash=item568b75f6e3:g:iCcAAOSw-itXqzEy Ok it leaves one winding connected to the neutral but I dont see a problem (a) any 13amp unswitched socket will do the same (b) I use a starter (c) I alway switch off the power to the lathe when I have finished with it ! Also remember run in reverse can cause the chuck to screw off H |
