Geoff, I used one of these from Ebay - very easy to use and has performed faultlessly for a couple of years now. Powered from an old plug top type power supply. I didn't even glue the magnet to the spindle, it just holds itself on. I did think it might fly off at high rpm but so far so good.

Andy

I too use one of the same powered by a redundant mobile phone charger fitted it around 3 yrs ago no issues to date

Impossible to describe for all the reasons given. You could try heating a lump of steel up to 800C and see what it looks like under your conditions. A £15 multimeter from Chester (smiley) comes with a type K thermocouple that will indicate the temperature.

Rod

Would this be the MY 64A multimeter your referring to ?

Thread: Best Parting off tool
05/12/2017 21:19:42

I have one of the Eccentric Engineering parting-off tool mounted in the rear toolpost on my myford S7 best thing since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned ! Previously I was one of the guy's that struggled with part off but since fitting the Eccentric Engineering parting-off tool I don't have any problems.

No comment on who's system is better, I fitted a Transwave kit to my S7 very happy with it in hindsight which I'd gone for a slightly larger motor than the .5 HP I went for a the time.

Thread: Washer undercut
31/10/2017 21:11:07

Thanks for all the comments I did have in mind it would be as Paul's drawing but like Vic I have never seen one

Morning All

I have justed watched a YouTube video the guy was making some dome headed hex screws and he made what he referred to as a 'washer undercut' under the head the purpose was to stop the head from damaging the paint work when tightened. I couldn't see very clearly what he had done and as I am making some hex head fasteners wondered if anyone could explain the technic

Thanks

HI have been thinking of getting s small mill firstly I have very little room and secondly mainly only need it to maintain my 3" Burrell. I have considered the Sieg SX1L however I was at the midland Model Exb the weekend and saw the Chester conquest Super Mill. If the round head screws are slot less and going into a blind hole, Phil h states no acces at the back, how are the screws driven into a tapped hole?

Dave

Dave after making sure the tapped hole had a good thread and was clear I used a pencil with a rubber on the end, a slight counter sink helped wink

I purchased one of the above and although it worked it leaked like a sieve crying when not in use I need to stand it in a container !

Thread: 1/2" coventry die head on a myford super7
30/09/2017 14:49:21

Ian when I purchased my super 7 it came with a couple of die heads which I have since given to a friend to use on his capstan lathe, basically the die head was fitted into a piece of round bar the end of which was turned down to fit into 1/2 chuck I recall having a play the die head was fitted with 5/16 UNC dies I used the tail stock chuck and I used the saddle to 'arrest' the tail stock thus opening the die head the resulting thread seemed fine to me !
