HI Michael, u will find the same style crankshart on most petrol engined strimmer/brush cutter's..... there quite a few different sizes.......most engine range from 20-50cc.........the cranks seem to last for ages, it's usually the carb or the electric's that stop em running........... I live too far away but my barn has at least 10 junker's (kept just for spares, hahaha) a good place to look is the local tip, it seem's that they r now cheap enough to throw away when they stop running.... good luck.....Clogs....... |

Thread: drilling angle iron |
18/06/2016 17:45:58 |
HI all, I have to drill hundreds of 6 and 8mm with the odd dozen or so 10mm holes in concreted in 50x50 angle iron....some of the holes I'll have the luxury of standing over the material but mostley it'll have to be drilled with a mains powered drill up a step ladder.... seemingly there seems to be lots of hard bits in the angle iron...... my question :- will solid carbide drill bits stand up to drilling free hand ? Ive been using Tin plated drill bits and De-walt extreme bits (double ground) with limited success ......have tried so called quality drill bits but they don't seem to fair much better considering the extra cost.......... the 6mm holes I drill without a pilot and use a 4-5mm jobber as a pilot for the 8mm holes as this seems to work better........but nothing lasts.....the drilling speed is not to fast as flat out it just burns the drills edge...... any suggestions as I'm fed up....and I don't really have the facilities to sharpen the drills in the field...literally........ many thanks Clogs |

Thank's Tony, chrome is not an option with all the plain holes and the 1/8th threaded ones....with st/st u only polish once...it costs a little more but it's cheaper in the long run.....and if you scratch it the marks just polish out..... apart from high stress fixing's I only use st/st.....bit of an addict really addict .....hahaha....actually for the price, it's only fractionally more expensive to use st/st nuts and bolt than the BZP variety, especially up to 8-10mm.....a good place to buy is Screwfix.....pretty much what ever you buy comes from China, that's unless it's the old English threads...most of the time I need specials so just make my own and if you need to shorten a bolt the cut end doesn't rust.......I've just got used to the cost I suppose...remember when you take something apart after a few year's it pay's dividends using st/st as you can reuse them, with the rubbish BZP these days I just throw them away used nuts and bolts.... .cheers Clogs

Hi all hope the Subs get better electronics than the rubbish new cars they produce !!! I can confirm it's cheaper to run older cars than these new whizz bangs...... I run two old'ns, a1989 Reno Express 1.6D and soon to be. 1928 Citroen pick up....not a diode or transister in sight...hahaha...everything is reparable.....by the way where I live salt is not used in winter......just sold my 1957 2CV Citroen, still had some original paint on the chassis...!!!!! if you need to go somewhere fast...rent a new car and drive it like you stole it....have some fun....Clogs

Hi all, I'm looking for some Stainless tube 25mm up to 35mm outside diameter with a wall thickness of not less than 2mm but would prefer 3mm..... The reason, I have to make some handle bars for a 1930 Indian, they are quite long and the cables are inside the bars......so with the leverage and the neccesary holes I want them tough.....along with the shocks associated with the girder fork suspension or lack off, they need to be strong..... Anyone know of a supplier.....most that I've tried can't help....I've seen the stuff in power stations so I know it exists.... thanks Clogs

Hi all, need some advice written so a grey haired old codger can understand please.. I have a TP-Link 300mbps wifi router that I have to often disconnect from the mains at least 3 time per day because it just stops working....we have unlimited internet usage per month but it does slow down after 40gig (contractual control)... guess I'm gonna need a new 1....but what to buy ? There is only me and SWMBO, we run 2x27 iMacs, 1x mini mac, iPad and 1 iPhone..... we hardly use the computers at the same time (emails and surfing) and at the moment never use it for catch up TV.......BUT.....this will change as we'll be moving to a place with fibre optic cables.....then we'll definitely be using catch up TV but with the same computer usage..... So what size wifi router will I need.... thanks clogs

HI all, originality is just fine in a Museum ......for those of us who use em, have ur fun make ur parts....I'd definitely prefer a a quality home made part than a cheap copy bought in from China.....it's hard enough as it is to keep em going... .......as for the new owner of that Ferrari (I believe it'a a footballer) nuff said..... I have 4 vehicles and 2 motorcycles from 1928-1947 and some of the parts are just not available at ANY price..... what ever keeps them going safely has just got to be OK......... I have found that the only people that want originality are just investor's out for a profit.... oil on yer shoes, bees in ya hair.......clogs
