![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | If its just for the odd run for fun rather than keeping your prize plane in the sky then you could get away with EN8, thats what I used for the Firefly 0.46 glow and thats still in one piece after a few 8000rpm runs. |

![]() 2376 forum posts 800 photos | Tim, On both the 10cc glow engines I've made I used large bolts as a source for crankshaft material. They tend to be tougher than mild steel but still machine quite nicely and of course they have the head already upset to make the crank web. I used a pressed in crankpin. Cheers, Rod |

![]() 1494 forum posts 403 photos | Tim Fabricating small crankshafts and other stressed components can be machined from high tensile fixtures particularly large diameter stuff of the older variety manufactured in this country.. (There is a lot of modern stuff manufactured in places like China which is so inferior) Socket head / caphead screws of domestic manufacture are favourite sources of this material and car boot sales are a brilliant place to find the good stuff.
