123 forum posts | Can someone measure the thickness of the teeth side of a Bahco Sandflex 12" hacksaw blade please. I need the teeth side of the blade to fit into a slot.

123 forum posts | Thanks for taking the time to measure. Although I've just been to a shop and measured one myself and it was 0.93mm! I didn't buy it as they were £3 each!
maybe there are different types?! |

A coarser blade will have a greater set and produce a wider kerf. As you've probably noticed the set on a hacksaw blade is produced by giving it a wavy edge, rather than by bending the teeth to the left and right as on a wood saw. Axminster do them in 18, 24 and 32 tpi at £1.44 each, including VAT. Personally i swear by Starrett blades, when I can get them. Neil |

![]() 1766 forum posts 46 photos | Hi Chris, sorry I forgot to mention that the blade I measured had 18 teeth per inch. I also measured a Starret blade (also 18 tpi), it measured just under 1 mm, so it seems that different manufacturers use different blade widths. Thor |

Measured 2 new 24T blades & got range of results....major difficulty is wave form in addition to any individual set, so where you position measuring implement is crucial. Measured longitudinally along the teeth, my digital vernier gives 1.07/1.08 at the LH end (24 TPI printed) & 1.16 at the RH end. Random measurements at 90 deg to the blade gave 0.79 to 0.84, except in the outermost inch or so where I got up to 1.20......tried a mic as well, but the between-waves/across waves variation was even worse. 41 forum posts 8 photos | Second thoughts: as I am, literally, without parallel, I used a pair of engineers' clamps placed side to side with the blade in between & measured across the sandwich. The average of the calculated results, within 0.02 of each other, was 1.03mm. If you have a height gauge & surface plate you could do something similar. Adrian |

Personally i swear by Starrett blades, when I can get them. Neil I swear AT Starrett blades. Bought a bunch of bi metallic ones some years ago and the teeth seem to just Fall off, regardless of the tension put on the hacksaw frame. Dave |
