Thread: Stopping everything from rusting.

Thanks all.
I’ll read though and decide what to do.

Hi, my workshop is a pre-fab concrete garage with asbestos roof.
I am having problems with everything rusting. I have a small heater to try and up the temperature slightly, but I’m losing all the heat. I’m going to seal the gaps between the asbestos and walls with expanding foam. I’m wondering if insulating the roof with 2” sheet will help a lot, or will that be a pointless exercise?

Thanks.

Thread: Hydraulic Motor
25/05/2020 22:06:05

Evening, we have a hydraulic motor (the motor turns on hydraulic flow, it isn´t an electric pump).

Where is the best place to ask advice on this, I´ve posted on a different forum but haven´t had any replies.

Basically, we have a hydraulic motor that has thrown off the rings that connect the pistons together, it has happened on both sides. Can these parts be replaced? We've been informed that we need a new motor, at the cost of several thousand pounds. But I'm struggling to believe that we can't make new rings for it.

Thread: Best Cutter for HDPE.
08/03/2020 14:36:00

Thanks, I will look into the suggestions.

04/03/2020 20:47:06

Evening, I need to slot a large quantity of HDPE with a slot drill / endmill.
It needs to make an initial plunge of 10mm depth in less than a second, due to the way the machine works while the HDPE is travelling.
What would you recommend, carbide, HSS, 2 flute, 4 flute?

Im wondering if the low helix cutters for aluminium would be better?

Thanks.

Thread: Grub screws for 16” Colchester chuck
17/02/2020 22:10:19

Thanks, it’s actually at work rather than something at home so I’d rather buy some than let the tool room make them, they have better / more important things to do unfortunately! As much as they’d like to try a left hand acme thread!

I’ll probably make a clamp to go round the broken part to hold together while it’s welded, then use the EDM to make squares or hex’s.

Are they hardened?

17/02/2020 10:10:36

Thanks for the replies, we’ve phone Rotagrip and they are £147 each!

Looks like we will make our own.

Thread: Laser Cutting Aluminium.
19/01/2020 20:03:37
Posted by not done it yet on 19/01/2020 13:17:18:

No profile showing.

Did you save it before leaving that area? Did you make it private or public?

Should be ok now - I´d missed something.

18/01/2020 17:16:12

Hi, location should be showing now - Manchester.

Do you know what the minimum charge at Runcorn Anodising is?

What is the place in the Midlands please?

17/01/2020 22:33:54

That´s way better than mine was, it has almost 1mm of taper on a 15mm thick part!

Who´s anodising it our of interest?

17/01/2020 21:00:28

Thanks, I´ve had aluminium water jet cut before, which was a very bad finish and bad taper.

It is all 6mm and 12mm thickness, I´m hoping to not have to machine edges on parts that fit together at 90 degree´s.

17/01/2020 19:48:36

Evening,

I have drawn in CAD a machine (gold mining) that I want to build with my son.

I was going to 3D Print it, but it needs to be more rigid than trials have been (admitedly haven´t used G/F nylon etc), so I´m going for Laser Cutting. Stainless gives the best finish, but to get my son to drill / tap 30 holes in stainless would put him off for life!

So I´m considering mild steel or aluminium, I´m wondering what sort of taper and finish these have on the cut edge? I´ve only had stainless laser cut before.

Thanks.

Thread: T nut slot channel
09/05/2019 19:08:35

Hopefully the picture works.

For whatever reason we are not using the t nut on this but have bolted straight into the profile.

09/05/2019 19:06:59

08/05/2019 22:33:02

Sort of, but much much stronger.

Imagine an aluminium bar 80mm x 80mm x several meters long, with a slot to take a M12 t nut.

08/05/2019 21:54:27

Hi, thanks for the replies.

Must for use in plastic extrusion, for holding a jig into a table. It needs to be quite strongly fixed down so it doesn’t move. Location accuracy doesn’t matter as the table is moved my motors.

We have loads of unistrut, but don’t want to use it. Other machines use this t slot channel but we don’t know where to buy it!

Thanks.

07/05/2019 20:42:46

I’ve been told not to use unistrut as it was my first idea!

Thanks.
