I click ARCHIVE and get the following...

(To access the Online Archive please follow these steps:

Register for a free member account at www.model-engineer.co.uk/join or log in to your existing account using the Register / Log-in link in the top left hand corner of the page.)

I’m already registered (witness I’ve created this post) and I'm a subscriber

(Once logged in click the link 'Settings' - this appears on the top menu bar once you have logged in.)

I’m obviously blind ‘cos I can’t find ‘Settings’ anywhere

(Make sure that your details match those that you subscribed with and that your subscription number is entered. Save any changes.)

Since I can’t find “Settings” I can’t check my details

(Now click the link 'Magazines' from the top menu bar and then select the magazine to which you are subscribed; you will then be able to pick whichever issue you would like to read.)

I can’t find the ‘Magazines’ link in the top menu bar

I’m obviously missing some obvious, so please help me out.

Gary

Top left of the homepage in the dark green bar just below the top banner advert.

It does say 'Settings' - this appears on the top menu bar once you have logged in

Something has clearly gone wrong. My homepage doesn't look like yours at all. Although I have several albums I can't find a way to access them in order to post a screenshot of my Homepage.

My Homepage tells me that the latest issue of MEW is 208.

I have logged in - I can't post otherwise.

Any ideas what has gone wrong?

Gary,

Sorry, I can't help with the other problems ... but this appears to just be bad management of the website.

A caching issue with your browser is more likely than a fault others don't see, especially if you are seeing an 'old' information or layout.

Your browser may be using the CSS (cascading style sheet) for the old website design, so it doesn't know where to put new information.

Try clearing your cache through your browser options.

Try and refresh your page (using the browser refresh button or press F5) you might still have the old design in cache.

I'm using Firefox 25.0.1 under Win7 x64+SP1.

I've tried clearing the cache, restarting Firefox and clearing the cache again, closing the ME tab, and navigating to the ME website again, only to find that I'm still logged on to the same page. I can't find a way to logoff.

As mentioned in an earlier post, adding a screenshot of my homepage is a problem 'cos I can't find any way of getting to my albums, and inserting an image from a URL results in just a tiny icon. I've uploaded a JPG of my homepage to Photobucket and, hopefully, this LINK to it will work.

My guess is that for some reason your computer isn't displaying the green header as green but as white or transparent. I see that the box for "search this site" is showing at the right hand end of where the green banner should be. As a test run, your mouse pointer across where the banner should be from the "search" box and see if the mouse pointer changes shape at all as it traverses. Mine goes from an arrow to a pointing finger when it gets to a clickable link. It's possible that the links that you are after ARE there but as they are in white text on a white background you're not going to see them.

There should be 9 of them reading from left to right; settings, inbox, friends, albums, magazines, bookmarks, feeds, my posts & logout.

Why you're not seeing the green banner I don't know, but the version of Firefox you're using is the latest update, I wonder if something got corrupted during the update process. It might pay to run the update again if you can.

Wow, well done Keith,

Your diagnosis was correct - the line is invisible. Why? I don't know!

I first noticed it in the previous Firefox version and got the update in a futile attempt to correct it. I reckon the web designer has messed up - or am I the only Firefox user experiencing the problem?

Are there any other Firefox users who don't have this problem, if so, what version of Firefox are you using?

Hi Gary

Well at least we know what the problem is - just haven't got a clue how to fix it!

I'm using the same version of Firefox as you (25.0.1) with Windows 7 stater on a Toshiba netbook and I see the green banner without any problem. I'd hazard a guess that the problem that your seeing is specific to your machine and it's settings. It might pay to have a trawl through the Firefox "tools", "options" list and see if some changes in there get the green banner back. It looks as though your system is not rendering the html code for the page correctly, but in a fairly minor way, as you're seeing 99% of what's there correctly.

It might be worth trying clearing the cache again and also clearing any stored history, as you say the problem occurred with the earlier version of Firefox. Have you tried logging out and then logging back in - you know where to find the logout tab now even if you can't see it!

Good luck

Keith

Firefox 25.0.1 no issues, except a new install of McAfee last week that upset the CSS settings.

Just a thought check that under tools -> options -> content -> colours> you have allow websites to choose their own colours checked.

Finally, you haven't got adblock on with over-enthusiastic settings have you? This affected a forum member last week.

Looks like you are also not seeing the images of teh magazine covers so a bit more involved than just teh green bar.

I do have the ability to login as you to see if its computer or user specific but the downside is it will log you out so may make it difficult to get back on.

Gary, out of curiosity, try doing a CTRL-A with the page selected. Do you see the magazines then?

JasonB. I'm able to login OK by attempting to post a reply. so go ahead and try the experiment.

OMG. Ctl-A hilites the invisible fields just fine.

Keith.Logging out and then in has no effect.

Neil. Websites allowed to choose their own colours is checked, and Adblock is just using the default settings.

Adblock does interfear with the top bar, Katy was going to look into this, not sure how far she has got. Try it with adblock turned off.

See also this thread where the issue was raised & Katy's reply on page 10

Many thanks for all the suggestions, and the final diagnosis.

I'll turn Adblock back on and use Ctl-A to see the invisible fields when I need to. And hope that one day soon Katy will have fixed the website.
