In the last few weeks I have noticed that whilst typing replies to posts, that my keyboard becomes unresponsive. The browser eventually tells me that the page has stopped responding and give me the option of quitting or waiting. It usually happens after I have been typing (and thinking what to say) for longer than 3 or 4 minutes.

Whilst the page is dead I can still use any other tab and even open another instance of the same thread I was replying to (and reply to that one!).

What I have found is that if I wait, (maybe 5 minutes) the page does come back to life as if it never happened.

Has anyone else seen this effect?

Ian

(Using XP, Chrome etc)

Ian, I had the same problem but only when using explorer 8 I'm not a computer buff-- in fact just the opposite but I started to use Chrome and no more problems.

I am on Windows 7

I have a feeling that whatever causes it to happen, its not platform related.

All I know is that it only ever happens on this website.

Hi Ian, I too am using Chrome on Win XP, and on a different machine, Chrome on Win 7, with exactly the same effects as you are seeing, and only on the ME website. This site's software is the worst I have ever seen on any forum. Content and people here are great, site itself is rubbish. There have been other threads complaining about the site in the past. Reportedly, editors have asked for improvements / changes and have been refused by the IT folks in charge. Not impressive.

This annoying delay is because of the way the editor works - there's live communication with teh far end as far as i can see. Welcome to the joys of 'cloud computing' with a slow connection

I'm not talking of a delay (which makes SCAYT uttrely yoosless) but a total hang up lasting several minutes.

It has nothing to do with cloud computing which this website isn't anyway.

Same for me Chrome on XP. Only seems to have started in last couple of weeks or so.

I have been having the same problem Ian. The dammed thing will not let me drop the cursor down so i can sign of. I don't know what you would call it, but the thing on a typewriter that lets you start a new line, or on my keyboard the button that says "enter" stops working. ONLY ON THIS SITE. Here we go again. Cheers Derek. It's doing it now.

I had the problem with the 'Enter' key not working when IE 10 was installed on my PC. This is fixed by enabling compatability mode.
