Hello RONALD--------- I believe that REEVES hire-out flanging blocks etc. BUT---- if it's for a one-off use then why not make a set from MDF ???

Do you mean for flanging the boiler plates or for forming the firebox?

Russell.

the radii on the flanged plates for SIMPLEX and SUPER SIMPLEX are quite small, but i think you wont find it takes very long to make the formers out of 1/2" plywood or blockboard. ive used mahogany and blockwood formers without resort to metal formers. you will need just a small rounding off on the edges of wooden formers with a file to end up with the radii for the SIMPLEX plates. there is a lot to be said for having the SUPER SIMPLEX boiler with cylinders bored to the SIMPLEX bore....martin evans went a bit overboard with the bore of the SUPER SIMPLEX cylinders (and IMHO the SIMPLEX cylinders with the SIMPLEX boiler).

cheers,

julian

I once knew a club member (now deceased) who built a Simplex chassis with a "Super" boiler as he didn`t think much of the original Simplex boiler. Another club member built a Sweet Pea with a loco - type boiler (dont know which design) as he considered that the designed ( Marine type ) boiler was not up to the job. However, there have been many marine - boilered SPs built and apparently run very successfully. Hope SP chassis + marine boiler really are OK as I have said boiler and 1/2 complete chassis! As you can see from the avatar, I have got more projects creeping along slowly. This is actually someone else`s Guy Lautard/Tinker cutter grinding jig, magnificent job - something to really aspire to.
