Triple expansion steam engine, ME 4434 Steam valve p83

"After turning the 3mm sections........." What 3mm sections.

The length of the stem is given as 42.2mm in the text and 44.2mm in Fig. 24

What is the overall length of the valve or more importantly the length from the end of the stem to the centre of the M2 hole.

Proof reading absent again.

From a safety and practicality point of view, why have so much material sticking out of the chuck as shown in photo 93.

I'm interested to see how it will run. A triple expansion wants a good 100psi plus there isn't any lead on the valves. Tubal cains dissertation of air vs steam would suggest that, if run on air, the exhaust will be well below freezing point.

Hi Eric, I have noted your comments on the different dimentions given for Fig. No.24 being confusing and would also like to point out on Fig. No. 29 the lengths of the valve push rods are also confusing as linkage 1 & 2 areshown to be 29mm but Link 3 although drawn as noticably shorter is given no dimention. Do we make several at differing sizes or is an update forthcoming.

Hi Eric

Don't be so impatient.
I don't spend all weekend looking at this forum.
I was out all day on Sunday at IMLEC.

The 3mm sections are the relieved bits.

The 44.2 is set 2mm into the bottom piece so 44.2mm is right and when assembled 42.2mm will be right.

The overall length is 54.2mm. (42.2 + 12)

Push rods should be 25mm, dimension missed from drawing.

regards David
