It seems my 'near scale' diesel shunter is turning out a bit 'scaler' than I expected. I've learnt a lot about riveting. There's still a a few things left to do - not least windows, handles for the 'doors' and sand pipes, then the practical things of getting the springing right and motor control. As long as I can put fettling and painting off for as long as possible... especially as I've discovered the original paint job was lined out white on blue!

You deserve at least one reply for that, It looks great and will look even better once you've bitten the bullet and got it painted.

If it bothers you sandblast the brasswork, use a good etch primer (3M rattle cans) and get it off to the vehicle spray shop for a two pack paint job.

Great stuff

I get it from my local car parts store. But could I find it on the 3M site? I'm not sure what is happening there.

Thanks folks,

I've made contact with a club with a 3 1/2" track, and they are happy for me to have a try out. I have to make a speed controller first.

Worst thing - I keep finding more info on the web, and have to keep adding/changing details. Amazingly I can't find definite evidence that it had side windows and doors, although its 'sister' (which has various detail differences) did.

I was trying to post some pics of my loco that had had the 'treatment I was proposing. Ran out of time struggling with the over complicated picture posting method on this site and looks like I got my links crossed.

I will try etch primer. I'm terrified of the painting bit - I'm the world's worst painter. I got my wife to buy me "How (Not) to Paint a Locomotive" for my birthday, and it gave me nightmares!

This is the colour scheme:

It's sister (in a bad way at a museum in Leeds) shows there is some white lining too. My eyes fancy the buffer beam has yellow and black diagonal stripes. The photographer sent me a fresh scan from this slide which also shows a strange flap controlled by a bit of string on the chimney!

The etch primer goes on well but the brass surface needs preparing. I was advised to get ist sand blasted for the best finish

Before

sandblaster

This cost the equivalent of abot 120quid, but of cousre you'll need an air line.

After etch primer

Finished job

No doubt the lid is to stop the rain getting in or the birds nesting. Looks like its a bit supefluos now.

Good luck

Pete

Hi Pete,

if you set the width of your pictures to, say, 350 pixels when inserting pictures you don't get any distortion. The problem is that most of us take quite hi res pictures and the software can't handle them.

Best regards

Terry

Thanks Terry

Ho Hum; its s website problem no doubt our webmaster could sort very easily by setting some defaults. If there was a preview and/or modify function we may be able to do something about it. All the other forums seem to cope with these basic features

The last time I tried I had the same problem and didn't have time to mess about. When I posted them this time I was certian I was sure they were OK.

However, you get the picture so to speak

(edit;  just found I can modify the post at the moment, no doubt following another post I can't)

Pete
