Hi There

Having been bit before, I have learned not to buy materials or start a project until the series is completed. Many things can happen to delay or stop a series, many of them completely beyond the mag's control. If you are really patient, wait a year after the series, that way you can read about at least some other builders' joy/agony with good drawings/ones with lots of errors. If you are really patient AND hate wasting time, wait the year, then draw everything up yerself on CAD, to make sure it all works out. I do this, and so far so good. If there's an error after laying out in CAD I have only meself to blame. Over the years, I have found a TON of errors in many published drawings from many sources while drawing/modeling them in CAD.

Thanks for your reply. It's a shame you cannot trust the drawings. Why are these not checked and full project verified before publishing. We have had to abandon the project after a fair bit of work. Rest assured once bitten by this magazine twice shy.

David, can I ask what response you got from people about carrying this series on in ME or those that would like a copy of the drawings to at least carry on with it alone?

Roger I take it you replied to David when He asked how many were actually building teh engine?

Hi There

I am waiting for Tony to sort the drawings out.

He mad a half hearted attampt at the firebox wrapper and the cylinder and it was wrong so still waiting.

I will not drop it, it is just delayed.

I am not sure how the cylinder mounts onto the boiler or does it just mount on to the wrapper.
I don't have enough time at the moment to sort it out.

regards David

I think it mounts onto the wrapper with the 1/4" brass tube going into the bush on the top of the boiler

Shout if you want someone to have a look at what sketches you have, maybe I'll catch up with you at Guildford.

Is it the same Tony Webster who made the gold-medla winning International Harvester Titan tractor? There appear to have been a few errors and ambiguities in the drawings for that back in the 90s.

We have to accept that the best modelling skills don't always mean the same level of draughting skills.

Hi There

It may well be.

He did something in Mike Chrisp's day, could be that.

DC1-

If you are going to continue the series I suggest you ask someone (maybe Jason B) to measure the actual finished model and make some decent drawings on CAD or paper.

If there were measured sketches to work to with key dimensions I could do some CAD models and drawings for it. I'd rather do that than suffer the garbage drawings, useless text instructions and lengthy forum interpretation sort-outs presented so far.

It was dropped due to so many errors in the "drawings" that would have cost more to correct than was felt worth it at the time.

I think it made an appearance in his book about building portables but that had some "issues" and it was decided it would be better not to publish my review of the copy Crowood sent me!

Many thanks Jason for your super fast reply. Pity really it looked like a good project.
