79 forum posts 9 photos | I wonder if anyone should know the whereabouts of John Hainings agricultural models,he made quite a number,he was of course a well known consultant for ME during the 70,80,s.His models were traction engines, cultivation equipment, some with the help & assistance of Colin Tyler, their articles had "Countryman Steam" headings
I refer to the actual models not ME articles.
Dave.

![]() 11 forum posts 3 photos | I knew John Haining and Colin Tyler is my father. I don't know of the whereabouts of John's models but my dad's got sold to a guy called Jack Charlton who had them for quite a few years before ending up at Christies London, where they were sold to a private collector in the states. The models, all in 2" scale comprised of a Fowler BB1 and balance plough, Kitson & Hewitson Slanting shaft ploughing engine (clip drum). The Darby Broadside Digging engine (on youtube, look up 'TYLER DARBY DIGGER'.
I will be offering the drawings & casting sets for these engines soon. I am just setting up a website and need to restore some of the patterns. They will be sold through Tylers Steam Models again.
Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.
Regards Neil Tyler. |

![]() 11 forum posts 3 photos | Hi Jason & Dave
Yes it will be Tyler's Steam Models website, I will advertise it in one of the mags, probably Old Glory. I will hopefully get the site up quite quickly although certain parts may be 'under construction' for 3 or 4 weeks whilst we make a decent job of it.
I'm very pleased to hear there is interest out there, I have a couple of people interested in the BB1 as well. I just need to find a reliable foundry now!
Thank's for your interest. Regards, Neil |

![]() 11 forum posts 3 photos | Hmmm. I have been deliberating that one a bit today. Looking at circulation and prices etc. You are right though as they were kind of born in the ME. I shall do both mags for a while and see how it goes. Thanks and regards, Neil |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Get it listed in the Suppliers section on Traction Talk which I think you are a member of and also put a post in their model section, also the suppliers section of Model Eng clearinghouse. You should also get it added to the database on Scalemodel tractionengines Yahoo group as thats the largest list I know of that has most models available.
And they are all free

3 forum posts 15 photos | I know this is a very old thread, but I now own the BB1 built by Colin Tyler. His collection came back to the UK and was sold by Station Road Steam. I am getting it recommissioned to run on steam again. |

3 forum posts 15 photos | Cheers Neil. Did you know this was the actual engine used in the build featured in Model Engineer between 1966 and 1967? I am in touch with Colin Tyler's son Neil now, and we will be getting together once the BB1 is back from being recommissioned. It's had quite a life, having being on Blue Peter in 1969 (and featuring on one of the Blue Peter puzzles), and in the 1976 film 'At The Earth's Core'. I have put some photos in an album on here. ![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | David, it would be worth trying to get a look at ME vol 146 No 3626 which detailed the boiler and possibly 3624 which introduced the model. Or get hold of a set of drawings, Sarik do them Edited By JasonB on 15/12/2019 20:40:00 |

4 forum posts | Thanks for the suggestions. Jason I have all looked at all of the articles mentioned and one in 147 but none show the designed boiler pressure. I have a set of drawings from Nexus, some sheets from the 3" and some from 2" plans but again no design pressure for the boiler. I believe that these are the same plans sold by Sarik as TE18. A 2" sheet shows a 120 psi pressure gauge, possibly indicating 80 psi design pressure for that size. |

Edited By Leo Westby on 15/04/2018 20:42:00 I've just noticed this. Did the Blue Peter feature show it being used to 'plough' a field with a balance plough? If so, I think I recall seeing it - I would only have been about 7 at the time! Neil |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Neil have a look at photo number 8, it may bring back memories. Just a well they did not try to recreate photo No1 with Blue Peters track record! |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | I've looked through all the Suffolk tractor article and can see no mention of boiler working pressure or even of a safety valve which might have included such information. Neil |
