Hello . Have just looked at Gol matic price list for milling machines, are you sitting down? The lowest priced mill is £10,800.00 +vat . Not what your average model engineer would pay surely, do we need these sorts of adverts.I for one are becomeing dissallusioned with the whole ethos of this site.

A new Mercedes is about £80,000 but it doesn't mean to say I have or need to buy one.
 
Myfords had a fully equipped long bed lathe at Bristol 2 years ago with a £14,000 price tag, where do you draw the line ?

I don't quite see the relevnce of what you're saying,    Mercedes do not advertise on this site and the £14,000 myford is not the cheapest machine they sell, unlike the £10.800+ of the Gol Matic site which was the point of Dixie's posting surely

Point taken but this hobby encompasses many views.
I get round to quite a few workshops when doing the CNC training and believe me they are not all sheds in the backs of gardens with a Sieg X3 mill in them and I'm not talking about just the CNC brigade.
 
I have been in custom built workshops that can put university and development labs to shame and believe me it's not just an odd one.
 
One guy I visited had the whole of his custom bungalow built on top of his workshop, he'd bought two Bridgeport's so one could always have a vise on and one had a dividing head on
 
Remember even if you shop cheap you will spend X 2 on tooling over a short while.
 
There must be a market for the Golmatic or they wouldn't stay in business. We need a broad band of what's available or how can you dream

     I don't suppose that commercial concerns are allowed to advertise on
   "our" site for free.  Why should we care who pays?  If Myhobbystore was
   able to run the website without revenue, that would be nice.  We would
   have more space and there would be none of that pesky flickering in the
   corners of our eyes.  It can't be done.  This is the real world and its nasty
   not to say vulgar, but we have to put up with it.

Also access to this site is free for all. It must cost to keep it running and presumably there is some income from advertisers to help support this resource ?  You don't HAVE to look at the ads but even if you do and the goodies are out of your range does it hurt to dream?
I must say I frequently visit Tony Griffiths site and drool over the occasional Lorch, Schaublin or Aciera for sale.  No chance ever of owning one of these unless I win the lottery  - and this is unlikely as I don't play!
