Motor Valves, What are they good for?

I have a clapped out Briggs & Stratton motor.  I've torn it apart to see what bits and pieces might be useful.
I'm sitting here looking at the shiny, bright valves wondering what I might do with them.
Most importantly is the steel machinable or am I asking for trouble?
Are there other good bits on the motor I should be looking to salvage?

Thanks in advance,
Jim Veitch

Valve stems can be used to make valves for model IC engines.

Hi James, I have used numerous car and motorcycle exhaust valves on my flash steam engines.
Some have been made of 21/4n and nimonic steel plus others that I do not no the specification of.
Tough but can be machined with sharp HSS tools.
If the valve material is going to be used in a high performance engine make sure the valve you use does not have a welded on head as they sometimes can break off.

I have a few from an Astra that snapped its cambelt. It turned out one of the ones I hadn't expected to replace was slightly bent, and I couldn't get to teh shop, so I took a skim off it with an ordinary HSS tool. It lasted a couple of years until the big ends went (at about 250K!)
