Northumbrian AXLE BOX SPRINGS

Can't seem to find wire gauge and dimensions for leading axle box springs

I have found the dimensions for the trailing axle springs but can't seem to find the driving axle box spring dimensions - am I missing something or can anyone tell me what wire gauge to use and what the  spring dimensions (turns and overall height) should be?

Try Part 5, Fitting the Wheels and Axels, page594, where there are instructions on making the springs and wire sizes.
22g for the driving and trailing wheels. 1 1/4 for the drivers and 5/8 for the trailing. Tender springs are recommended at 26g and 5/8. (Part 9, Page 257).
Can you recommend a supplier of piano wire Donald as I haven't found one yet.

Thanks to Chris - yes REEVES 2000 keep stainless spring steel wire for this ([email protected] - from memory about £7.50 per 7 metres)

For chris and anyone else who has not used piano wire before, don't try cutting with a pair of pliers or sidecutters unless you want to damage the cutting edges. Small cut off wheel in a dremel type tool is probably the best option. Don't think you really need to go for stainless in this application, save it for safety valve springs etc, the cheaper piano (music) wire will do the job. The model aircraft shops keep it in about 36" or 1m lengths, a 0.5 kg coil from Reeves will last several lifetimes.

Thanks to all for the addresses and Jason for the cutting methods. I was just about to dismantle the old Joe Anna for parts! The way I play the piano the neighbours would probably have been grateful.

REEVES PIANO WIRE IS CHEAPER THAN I THOUGHT!! it's more like £3 - no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer
