Hi,

I'm wondering what the type of the screw that holds the inserts into these tool shanks is.

It looks like a countersunk torx screw, is that correct? Anyone know the diameter and pitch?

Regards, David.

This topic has been covered a number of times and a quick site search from the home page turns up a lot of replies. However, I remember Michael Gilligan replying in one thread saying that he bought a packet of them from an eBay seller and giving a link, as a result of which I did the same and got a packet of 50 for about £3 inc postage from - guess where? I can't find the thread now and anyway the link will be long out of date I would imagine, but you could try a search on said site.

John

P.S. just looked on eBay and they're all over it but the price has gone up to circa £5 for 50. Cheaper if you only want a few.

For info, Torx screws for holding inserts come in different sizes and the keys are colour coded:

'Just bent metal'

Not sure that is how Unbrako, Wiha or PB would like their products described!devil

As regards colour coded Torx keys, I've answered my own question as I have found out that not only are mine different to SOD's, I also have T8's that are black and red.

The srew is Torx, T8, M2.5.

If you search for CCMT060204 dimensions, you find drawings of the insert. For the bolts you can search for Torx M2.5 insert screw

Look at the bottom of this page: CCxT0602xx dimensions

I believe it's all based on the international MIUAYGA standard.

As a point of interest not all insert screws are Torx, some are Torx Plus and not interchangeable. Sandvik use Torx Plus.

The best place in terms of quality and price I’ve found so far for Torx Insert screws is eBay. Just look for the ones made in Taiwan, they normally have a matt grey finish. Many of the not so nice ones made elsewhere appear to be painted black?!

No connection but this is the supplier on eBay that I’ve used for Torx Insert screws.
