I am having trouble in getting an order processed. Is this company no longer functioning?

Might be - but several previous threads ( or posts) appear to class that place as unreliable, at the very least.

Not MK, but I ordered some metal from Megalomania over in Hinckley on Monday afternoon via their website as I didn't want to receive it until later in the week as I would be out all day Wednesday. You can guess what happened, email on Tuesday to say being delivered the following day. Why is it when your not in a hurry for something you get it promptly and when you do the opposite occurs, that's life I suppose.

I had severe problems with them some time ago. If you do a search on the forum you'll find numerous negative comments about them I'm afraid. I won't use them again.

Megalomania HowardT? I assume that was due to your spell checker. LOL. You mean Metal Mania I believe.

A question if I may Howard. When you ordered from Metal Mania did you tell them not to deliver on the Wednesday? I ask because I get most of metal from them and have always found them very helpful if I wanted a specific delivery day.

Its web-site is still active but the company could simply be poor at responding. Not the way to run a business!

I always use M - Machine metals never had any problems all the years I have ordered from them...

No, I always leave delivery to the dispatcher. While I am sure Metal Mania will follow delivery requests many others do not, so I just live with what I get.

No idea whether this is relevant to your difficulty, but there are recent changes on record at Companies House

Michael, opposite your post in the "shopping partners" box is a link to MMK. I clicked to see if was active and it is. The website is a mess. I wanted to look at what they have listed as low melt metals, but each catagory is represented by a picture with the number of items in that catagory listed. Which picture do I click on? I dislike poorly constructed websites. If they can't be bothered to present a good web face, I don't bother.

Interesting view Lee, but I have just looked at their site and it functions perfectly normally.

I checked SS Hex bars, it opened up a whole list of sizes including those for making BSW/BSCY threads. Clicked on the size I wanted and it loaded straight into the "basket."

Seemed fine to me.

Totally agree, Lee … But I’ve found the work-around

Download the 2018 catalogue, and skip to p19

On the related subject of metal prices:

The Postman delivered a brown C4 envelope this morning

[ Signed For, First Class Letter ]

Inside was a white envelope with Thank You written thereon

… containing this piece of wire.

which is nominally 0.5mm diameter

  1. I sincerely hope it is ‘as described’
  2. any guesses ?
  3. no, I haven’t done an ‘unboxing video’ !

Of course you could simply type in "Low melt metals" in the search function and it will show Woods Metal and Casting Alloy which melts at 225C. It will go to the specials pages and highlight each item that falls into the Low Melt Metals category.

Just a guess, Michael, at Q2:

Spring wire for a clock part?

Good try, Nigel … I can see the logic

But, no … the wire is relatively soft and and an untarnished silvery colour.

Actually, its purchase has raised some interesting questions in my mind, about uncertainty of measurement; so I will probably start a new thread later today.
