Warco GH Universal...Spindle locking

Hello Everybody.

I have just acquired a second had Warco GH Universal and wondered ...does anybody out there have any ideas on how I can lock the spindle to allow me to tighten a collet chuck to the the required torque?

Warco were kind enough to send me a user handbook but the need for some weird font has rendered it unreadable. So if the answer is in there I'm not able to find it...

Many thanks in advance

Not read through that previous thread. Simple answer, for me, is to machine flats, to take a spanner, on the collet chuck body.

I have a GH Universal. Surely a collet chuck has flats so you can hold on those to tighten the nut. Alternative, which is what I do with R8 collet direct in the spindle is to use a one spanner on the draw bar and one on its locknut.

I have the same m/c and an ER32 collet chuck, I use the ball bearing type collet chuck and find I can put the m/c into it lowest speed and tighten the chuck onto the cutter and its fine for machining, also loosen it the same way. My chuck body also has flats on it if I need to use them but are very rarely used.

Assuming it is tightening the collet you are talking about, rather than the collet holder into the spindle, there are usually spanner flats next to the collet nut. The first er25 holder that I bought didn't have the flats and required a solid carbide endmill to produce them, and just by luck, the size I chose exactly matched a later holders standard flats.

Many thanks to you all for your suggestions and help.

My chuck did not have spanner flats... until now. A good friend of mine ran it through on his Bridgeport...problem solved.

Thanks again...until the next time...
