I'm new on here so thought i would introduce myself.

My name is Andy and i supervise (very hands on) at a welding/fabrication company in barnsley. I started off working on a lathe when i left school and did my apprenticeship and as time went on i drifted into the welding game and loved it ever since. My passion is engineering and i have always wanted to build locos and traction engines so last year i dug out my old tools and started gathering equipment, organised my workshop and bought a Myford 4" precision with plans to expand.

I'm interested in learning everything i can and developing my skills further so i thought this was the best place to start. I would like to join a club but don't know where to start to be honest.

Thanks for reading.

Andy.

Hello Andy and welcome. I think that the nearest club to you will be Wortley Top Forge MES.

http://wortleymes.com/

Give them a try.

What sort of thing are you hoping to build?

Brian

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks Brian that's lovely i will give them a try. Well im just starting a 3.5" county carlow with intentions of maybe tackling 7.25" holmside too. I don't know anyone who is a model engineer to be honest so im a one man band at the moment so things could change as i make possibly make connections.

Welcome!

Do find and join a M E Club. There you will find like minds, and will be able to exchange experiences, skills, and tools to help each other; in addition to the advice and banter on here.

A friend has a 7.25 Holmside. It';s a big beast!

Go for it!

Howard

I will definitely go and see the guys up at wortley in the near future once my workshop is a bit more sorted.

The 1589 newstead engine that is currently being restored at spa valley has some sentimental value so the holmside is my main goal for the future.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the forum. Just down the road from you in Doncaster. Have been meaning to go up to Wortley to check them out, if you go before I do give us an update. I am a member of Rotherham (RDMES) and also go to the open days at Sheffield and Chesterfield clubs. Both worth a visit, very well run and good clubs. If I can be of any assistance let me know. I often go up to Watts auction house in Barnsley for tools and equipment in their auctions.

Alan.
