My copy of this is issue 6 from 1994. I'm sure there will have been an update. I've tried contacting AALS and the chap from the thread on scaling up a Sentinel boiler, both to no avail. Anyone know what the latest issue is and how I get a copy?

What happened to the southern fed/ northen assc codes on boiler construction and testing ? Why now do the ambsc codes seem to be mentioned. In the UK whose are we using now ? Having left the EU what has happened to SI 2000 No128 Regulation 8 pressure regulations 2000. Does the UK have it's own regs ? Noel.

Noel,

The UK Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (that SI 2000 No. 128) is still in force. It had nothing directly to do with EU regulations. It isn't a construction code though Regulation 4 relates to Design & Construction.

Regulation 8 relates to the Written Scheme of Examination.

The EU Pressure Equipment Directive, has been transferred into UK law by The Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, as amended by the Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019. So it essentially remains in place, but with UKCA mark replacing the CE mark.

In the UK specific codes are not mandated - you can work to any code or standard as long as you can show it satisfies the Essential Safety Requirements laid down in regulations.

The SFed code is not a design guide, AMBSC is

Surely I don't have to rely on dirt mail to the far side of the world to get a copy

Certainly looks that way Duncan, and if your memory is anything like mine by the time it arrives you will have forgotten what you wanted it for.

There was intent by the “feds” to produce a UK construction code to compliment the test code some years back but that all fell by the wayside, they had some stuff on copper boilers but steel seemed to fall in the all too difficult box so it never ended up getting published.

Paul.

I has contacted the HonSec of AALS without reply, but following Jason's link I have now emailed the HonTreas. Watch this space

Well its now over a week since I emailed both Sec and Treas of AALS to try to get a legit copy. No reply. I know it's a long way to Aus, but at 186000 mils per second an electronic message should have got there by now. Covid restrictions are keeping tennis players out, but you can't send the virus by email. I'm not messing with dirt mail, too slow and expensive.

Lots of businesses shut down for Christmas in Australia. Some back at work this week and some starting next week. I ordered a copy of the code for copper boilers last year and it was only available in printed form not electronic.

PS. If the tennis player had gotten vacinated and had a legitimate visa he would not have had any problems with immigration. Because he is a star player he should not expect to get any better treatment or exemptions than you or me and is being kept in the same type of accommodation as everyone else. It may not be up to the 6 star standard that he is used to but will have to grin and bare it. Or stop his complaining and go back where he came from.

There have been repeated urging of the AALS by prominent persons to make the code free online. They refuse, reckoning they need the money.
I’m surprised the AALS Treasurer did not reply. As Paul said, many people go away for summer holidays over the Christmas period. I’m surprised also that scanned copies don’t find their way online.
The mail is in disarray also due to the latest COVID massive surge.

A kind soul has sent me a copy. Had AALS replied I would happily have paid. Their loss is my gain
