4 forum posts | Hi Guys,
I'm Leon and I'm pretty new to all of this. I recently got myself a Westbury Light Milling machine and a Myford Super 7 and I am eager to learn how to properly use these.
Cheers, Leon |

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Welcome to the Forum Advice and help always available. (Sometimes conflicting, so beware! ) If you are keen to learn, buy some books, such as : Zeus charts - INVALUABLE. Still using mine bought in 1958! Ian Bradley "The Amateurs Workshop" and "The Myford Series 7 Manual" These will tell you how to set up the lathe and how to grind HSS tools s L H Sparey" "The Amateurs Lathe" You will find books in the "Workshop Practice Series" very useful.. Take time practicing. Make mistakes on mild steel rather than on expensive castings! Making small tools will provide useful learning, as well providing things that will be useful in the future, and can save money. Things such as one or more Tap Wrenches, Tailstock sliding Die holders. (Holders for variousn sized Dies that slide on an arbor in the Tailstock.. Fine threads may strip if asked to pull a Tailstock along the bed of a lathe). One of my hobby horses is to make a Centre Height Gauge so that tools can be set to Centre Height, so that they cut properly. Eventually, you might want to make a Mandrel Handle.. Some of these sorts of projects will be covered in books in the WPS, such a Harold Hall's "Model Engineer' Workshop Projects" No 39. Find a model engineering club,if you ca and join for the company, advice and possibly demonstrations. HTH Howard
