20 forum posts 8 photos | Hello I have just bought a swedish clone of the South Bend 9 lathe and it came with the original 0.5hp 3 phase motor. I have the correct capacitor and runs ok, but will this ruin or burn out the motor? Should I just buy a single phase motor? |

2308 forum posts 33 photos | Hi Tonny, IF it runs ok using a capacitor for phase shift , keep an eye on the temperature when using it. So long as it does not get to hot you should be OK. If the motor does burn out you can always get a single phase motor, ,75hp or even 1 hp if there is room, there are plenty of secondhand ones about. Good luck Noel |

20 forum posts 8 photos | Yes I was thinking of buying a single phase motor. How reliable are these VFD? I dont have alot of trust in electronics and if it breaks down, I am not able to fix it. |

I bought some cheap VFD's and they have been fautless for several years. Dont forget the motor needs to be dual voltage ie 230/415 wired Delta to work properly on a VFD regards Edited By Oldiron on 16/09/2021 19:27:19 |
