Old lathe tools

Hi

I have some old metal lathe tools laying about that I’ve no use for. Just wondering if anybody knows what they are.

2nd from left is an Armstrong - Chicago tool holder but don’t know about the others.

Don’t want to chuck them away and I don’t think they’ll fit a modern hobby mill if I get one.

Any help appreciated.

The top one is a knurling tool, the row of cylindrical items at the bottom right are centres, morse taper sleeves and a countersink.. The others are tool holders for small pieces of HSS tool steel except for the one that has a hole in it with a slot and this was for making a fine finish on items, very rarely seen these days.

They won't be worth very much but you could probably make a few pounds in the classified section on here.

Wasn’t sure about the value but I know that tooling and accessories for modern lathes is expensive.

The one with the hole and slot is a spring threading tool, used to prevent chatter when approaching full depth on a threadcutting job.

I seem to remember Sparey mentioned that tool being very good for threading, due to a slight springing action ?

Bottom row, 7th from left, looks like a tailstock revolving centre, has ball race inside. It spins with the work, whereas the plain centres shown need lubrication when used.2nd from right, bottom row, looks like a half centre to allow end - turning/ facing of work. Big fat one, far right could be MT3? and 7th from right so thin, could be MT1 and the rest of the taper shanks probably MT2.4th from right appears to be a conversion sleeve with a tang on the tail end, possibly MT2 outer and MT1 internal taper. Same goes for 4th from left.

I could put them in classifieds. I’d like to be in a position to use them but don’t have room for a large lathe.

If I did get one, it would be hobby size.

The holder with the light-coloured rust, to the right of the sping tool-holder, looks as if for holding small Coventry-type thread-chasers.

The large holder with the screw in a little hump (2nd from left, next to all those centres) is for parting-tools, and appears to have a blade in it.

I would pinch the knurls from the push knurling tool and make a pinch or scissor type tool to use them on. The knurls on those are usually good quality ones !

I still have these lathe tools/accessories and even if I do get a small hobby lathe, I’m not sure they’d be suitable.

I’ve just put them in classifieds for very little but I think they’ll just have to go the recycling centre if no luck.
