Did anyone watch the Repair Shop on BBC 1 last Wednesday night?.

One of the restorers was using a hand held laser cutter, dose anyone

know anything about this gadget, who sells them, the cost and what maximum thickness will they cut?.

Bert Ashton.

Bert,

I think you might be referring to a plasma cutter, used on the weather cock.

Readily available from Machine Mart and similar suppliers.

HTH,

Rod

The £80 Aldi one will cut 6mm steel, you will need a compressor. Consumables are readily available.

If it's a plasma cutter then it is good for ferrous and non ferrous metals but you will need a GOOD air compressor. Very handy if you have the work for it. I would be cautious of advertised thickness of cut though and you WILL need consumables in the form of inserts and nozzles. Noel.
