Hi all,

Just thought I would post this as a bit of fun.

There will be a small prize of some small items of workshop tooling to the first person to correctly guess EXACTLY what I am making. The answer must be very specific.

I have started with some 3" lengths of 3/8" square mild steel and milled the corners off with a 45 degree dovetail cutter as below:

xmascomp1.jpg

I am making approximately 50 of these items and there will be the same amount in 5/16" square material. Obviously I am doing all the items in batches to keep the machine setups to a minimum.

If no one gets it with this photo I will post the next operation when I do it.

THIS will NOT be ready for Xmas!! laugh

I hope everyone has a great Xmas despite what is going on and would like to thank all the people on here who have been so helpful to me over the year.

Regards, Martin

How many guesses are we allowed with each photo?

Had not given that any thought!

Let say two guesses per photo?

Just the first person to get it wins I suppose!

Hi Martin,

OK I'll have a punt, links to fit door handles on each side of a door, the shaft goes through the door into the handle !

Hi Martin!

It's the fact you're making 50 of them that's throwing me off! Although I guess that might not be all for your own use...

My guess so far is blanks for pens, although I'm not sure why you'd start with square and not round

Fun competition!

Door handle spindles for a large public lavatory.

The ⅜" spindles are for the Gent's Bogs and, like tissues, have to be man-sized. (ie clumsy oaf proof.)

Dainty ⁵⁄₁₆" spindles are more than sufficient for the Ladies Powder Room, where refined womenfolk repair to complete their toilette whilst hubby accidentally soaks his shoes next door.

Gent's toilet door spindles operate in a hostile environment and to be awarded Europe's much coveted CE Mark must be rust-proofed against flying liquids; stainless is best. Lady spindles may be painted Floral Linen Pink, but it's decorative only.

Following on from Jason's woodwork clue, shanks for the cutters for a hand router, i.e. a Record 071?

Mark is the winner, that did not take long!

I have lots of incomplete Stanley 71 & Record 071 hand routers which sell very well with full sets of 3 cutters.

Please PM me with your address and I’ll send you the small prize after Xmas.

Regards, Martin

If of any interest I will post the remaining machining stages of these cutters as I go along.

Got to make a split collet today to hold the stock in the 3 jaw for the end operations.
