Mystery tool

Sorting through some boxes and found this tool. Now, I know what it is and what it does, but thought others might be interested in having a guess. Maybe we could start an Advent Calendar of mystery tools?

Do either of the anvils rotate?

It looks like a tool for lubricating leaf springs. The anvils spread the leaves of the spring so grease can be pumped in to it. The version i had had a large screw down greaser on the end of the threaded bit.

Agreed John, I'd been keeping my eyes out for one at autojumbles, but eventually changed to parabolic from elliptical springs on the Landrover, so no longer needed one.
Do a Google search on Terrys leaf spring greaser or something similar.

I don't know and, seemingly, neither does Google Image Search.

Peak4 has it cracked, it's for separating leaf springs so that grease can be applied using the grease nipple on the screwed portion.

Yes, the anvils do rotate, and John and Bill are absolutely correct, it's a Terry's leaf spring greaser. Well done to you both.

Ah, hadn't spotted a grease nipple. So that explains the slot in the moving Vee.

+1 for a leaf spring greaser.

That brings back some memories!
