449 forum posts 72 photos | Hi - I have been trying to source some 1/2" diameter Delrin (or a POM copolymer) rod but cannot find anyone selling suitable imperial sizes. Plenty of 12mm rod with a generous plus tolerance but nothing being listed as1/2". Has anyone else had this problem? |

![]() 2549 forum posts 235 photos | Turn down some Ø15mm would seem to be the easiest option. It turns nicely with 6mm button inserts. A travelling steady will keep the diameter to a suitable tolerance. Delrin is a trade name, have you searched for acetal which is the non-trademarked name? Martin C |

449 forum posts 72 photos | Thanks for all the helpful advice. My impression is that imperial sizes are only likely to be available in the original Delrin product range as this was developed in the US and from what little there is round would appear to be from the US. Just fine of course but you will be hammered with heavy postal charges. The alternative co-polymer products which are more widely available on ebay and the like are of european manufacture and are in metric sizes. Shame of course as 1/2" diameter rod stock is such a useful size to have around for model engineering purposes. |

1221 forum posts 161 photos | With nogginend having 15 mm at £4.20 a foot why would you bother looking for 1/2 inch?. I use a fair amount of acetal and machine it with pcd tips and the finish is amazing and dead on size, personally I would prefer to start with a larger blank to give a fine turned finish to your major dia. |
