43 forum posts 10 photos | Hi All, Have just rejoined after a long while not posting (but browsing) and not being able to log in. I think its called a Dore Boring Head but google brings up lots of images if you call it a Westbury boring head. I recently came a cross some casting kits at a sale (when buying and old pantograph) and it was unexpected to find a Stuart 10h kit along with a kit for the Dore boring and facing head. Main issue at the moment is that I have no construction plans for the boring head, just a box of casting. While I could probably cobble it together, it would be useful to know roughly what sizes things were meant to be. I have looked around for plans but not finding much available or and suggestions on how best to approach the machining as I dont think you can by replacement bits if something isn;t done right. I was pointed to Reeves model engineers who have plans for the westbury boring head but at $43 approx to post to me I figured that was just too much and so thought I might try ask here if anyone has made one or has some old plans they could share to help with the build. the kit is bottom right in the image. Hi Bill I thought it unusual to not be able to see any Files or Photo folders listed without joining, didn't realize there were none uploaded. Emgee I'll probably get around to uploading some of the old stuff eventually, but the way I had to download it, the filenames aren't all that helpful, so I'll need to associate things together. 43 forum posts 10 photos | Thanks for the tips on posting images and fixing mine. forgot about passwords.... Just just blown away by how willing and helpful you guys are with all your information and knowledge. John - thanks re the tip on the castings and the locking screw, I have a few old electronic copies of ME and have got one article by George Thomas on modifications he did, so I might consider doing some of what he had done. I am a member of a couple of the Yahoo groups (Tom Senior and the pantograph group) but have not yet joined the DW group. I do have an early Westbury machine plus a couple of others. thanks Steve |

43 forum posts 10 photos | Hi Bill, Big thanks, files have come through and is exactly what I was looking for. I also tried to set up an album. I was able to identify one more part (screw thread) that was in the box among the random bits. hope the image works this time. Looks like I have the main parts needed. I can find the random grub screws and bolts. The screw has a little rust so will clean it up and see if I am happy with it. I might also fit a graduated dial. Think those parts have been sitting the box for abut 50 years. Steve

I believe there is a casting missing, the one which is fitted to the bed and supports the wheel adjustment wire when facing. Emgee Having looked through some more documents, it appears that this extra casting may have been available separately to those for the head itself. |
