Just found out that this thread had been locked probably due to the video mentioning a non contributory supplier:- sorry about that chaps I've deleted the video

Anyway her's an update on the project:-

What I was aiming for:- is the ability to flip the unit over and for it to be still on centre, but my first build failed with this aim I eventually traced the fault down to the bearing housing the holes for bolting the unit down were not symmetrical around the centre line of the shaft over 1mm out and they were not square to boot, its partly my fault as I made the assumption that they would be symmetrical.

The corrective work gave me the opportunity to dump the box section and replace it with a 2" square of ally, I've know got the spindle dead in the middle and I can know flip it round to any orientation and it will be plumb on centre, as a test I just cross drilled a 3mm hole through bit of steel, flipped the unit over and used the other end of the fixture to mill a 3mm wide key way see picture.

I'm happy with it know.

The unit is capable of

1 Cross Drilling

2 End milling a key way

3 Cutting a screw driver slot in a screw.

4 Regrinding a fixed centre

5 Sharpening centre punches

6 Truing up the jaws of a four jaw chuck

and no doubt many other things

Her's some pictures

Well i would be surprised if your thread was locked because of a mention of Bang good & ebay. How does anyone help another if he cannot say where to get an item from. I had already seen your youtube vid before i saw this post. Obviously i did not know you were not just a member , but also a moderator on this site. Well done with the work. I have watched a few of your video's & you have done some nice models. Great site , great video's . Keep it up. yes

Thanks for your comment Steve

I don't know the exact reason the thread was locked I just assumed it was because I mentioned the supplier of the parts in the video. I know that there has been some issues with some of the advertisers who support the forum because some companies have been getting free exposure for their products I've no idea just what this exposure was I can only assume that it was from pop ups on utube videos. I don't get any financial reward for my video this is despite being asked to join the system quite a few times, I simply ignore the advances. if any pop ups do appear on my videos it is without my consent.

In stating where the items came from I was simply answering a question that all of us must have asked or answered many time:- "where did you get that from?". I know that people are aware of the problem of companies getting free exposure needs a gentle hand, other wise there is a risk of losing many interesting threads that draws in people to join and contribute, without people participating advertising exposure will reduce a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water.

That's all I have to say on the subject:- I'm off down the workshop to enjoy some more time at this fantastic hobby.

This is getting rather surreal, and perhaps self-defeating

Indeed, first we get a request for link to video then the inevitable request for a link to where it was bought from hence the reason for locking the thread so it slipped down the page nice and quietly.
