Femi 782 bandsaw

Hello, I know a couple of people have bought one of these. I'm considering one and it would be useful to know by how much the handle and motor stick out at the rear when the saw is in its vertical position. Please could someone run a rule over it?

If you want it sitting square on to the front of your bench then 690mm is tight, 700mm would be better.

Mine tends to stay on a 500mm bench set at an angle which does for most things, easy to lift off if I want to cut something longer.

Very happy with it, not got the table yet or got round to making one as I have an old woodworking bandsaw that does for non ferrous and a grinder does the odd bit of steel sheet if I don't want to hack saw it.

Brilliant saws and very precise. Recently finished making a horizontal table for it.

Digressing slightly, there have been discussions on holding small parts using a second vice clamped in the fitted vice. I made one myself. However, it struck me last week that a fixture plate is much more useful, particularly if you haven´t got a suitable spare vice. I used an 80mm wide piece of 6mm steel and drilled and tapped 6mm holes on it.

It can be gripped in the fitted vice, adjusted to suit and all my holding down bits off the mill, including V blocks, fit it. I can also use it on the mill. It seemed so obvious when I thought of it, but I had not seen one used on a bandsaw before.

I have had one for a year, with the table, and I leave it set vertically as a bandsaw. Cable tie holds the trigger closed - push button on/off. I have bolted mine on a small metal trolley.

I like it a lot and use it often for cutting steel sheet and even 1/8" plate. One problem is the small throat of 2" being set just 4" back from the blade so you cannot, for example, cut a 10" x 10" sheet exactly in half. You have to plan any cutting out job carefully. Also the blade cut is not square to the table (out by 5 deg or so), the table guide frame cannot be easily used, and the mechanism for holding the blade head vertical is mechanically poor.

My new problem is damaging some third party blades by cutting stainless sheet - I seem to be tearing out teeth either side of the blade join. Perhaps I need to buy a better quality of blade and need to look into that; any recommendations?

There is nothing else like it for the price, so I am pleased I have it.

I can vouch for the quality of Femi saws I have the smaller 105XL and its a great saw and despite its size it still has a 4 inch capacity.

80 mm sq steel. I found a way to do it wrong - I now advise against cutting oil and too firm pressure - the blade comes off Cutting dry, with 'firm' pressure worked reliably for me.

I don't think you are meant to use cutting fluid on bandsaws with rubber tyres.

To extend blade life somewhat, I have had success with a smear of wax on the blade entry side of the work. Just enough gets carried by the blade without contaminating the drive wheels. This works for both vertical and horizontal configurations.
