Hi

can’t remember if I’ve ever been on here but I just thought I’d pop on and say hello, I’m a precision mechanical engineer from the U.K. by day and secret watchmaker at night.

i have just a little workshop in my garage where I potter about making mess to then drag into the house on my shoes

Welcome James and welcome. I made a clock a few years ago but watchmaking is the stuff of dreams.

Any chance of a picture of what you are presently working on?

I'm sure there will be fellow watchmakers along soon.

Good morning gentlemen

Thankyou for your replies and kind welcome

I’ve just added a handful of photos to my album now.
I’ll try to add more later as it only allowed me to upload 8 photos just now.

Any questions or requests please just ask, happy to talk about this stuff all day!

Hi,

Im in awe, that's some very fine filing? on the hands, the biro is good for scale.

Can I ask what the fourth tailstock attachment is used for in the 1st pic of the toolmakers draws, is that for a drilling pad or something completely different.

Hi Jon

thankyou! Those hands were both just hand filed to shape.. the hour hand was the third one I’d made, the first two were scrap as I was refining my technique a little!

That’s right! Yeah it’s pretty small so they call it a ‘drilling vee’!
