Hi. I'm new to the world of model engineering. I have a friend who was employed in the Motherwell Ravenscraig steel works for his entire working life and who retains a strong interest in metal work. I have become fascinated by his home forge, metalworking machines, etc and by his stories of his days in the steel industry. He has begun to make a model engine and he asked me about how he could source certain parts that he would find difficult to manufacture. I think this is the place. As so often happens, you find yourself developing an interest which grows into more of a hands on experience. I think I've been bitten by the bug! I'm going to show him this site (he's not very good with anything related to IT) but I'm sure that he will freak out when he see's the resources and support available on this forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome gents.

In reply to Brian, my friend is making a replica 1910 steam crane which was manufactured near Motherwell by a company named Marshall and Brown (?).

He remembers seeing the crane in use during his working days. He is trying to work from memory and from photographs that he took during his working days because he doesn't feel that it would be possible to find drawings.

To David, yes I'm going to scour the site. You never know, if there is anywhere that I'll track some drawn information for him then its here on this site. I have already told him about it and he is very keen to get on to have a look for himself.

Regards,

WB
