Can anyone help my grandad?

Hi Guys,

My Grandad has started to build an 042 Steam Locomotive and has lost the plans to complete it. Can anyone help with sourcing the plans for it if possible. The plans were serialised in the Model Engineer but he has no idea which year they were published. He really only needs the valve gear to complete.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Brad.

I've added a photo of the locomotive that he has built so far in albums under 042 locomotive.

Thanks Guys.

Brad,

That looks interesting, I don't recognise the design personally but hopefully someone will. It looks vaguely Hunslet style, certainly narrow gauge prototype I would say.

Paul.

Going by the tall chimney and outside cylinders I'd hazard a guess that it's Lion (perhaps as LBSC's Titfield Thunderbolt).

Reeves 2000 do plans.

Lion has external wheels as opposed to this model which looks like internal ?

Bill

Fair cop!

Judging by the cylinders and the boiler it looks as though it is Gauge 1 or maybe even O Gauge. The boiler looks to be either meths or gas fired. That should narrow it down a bit.

From the picture it looks like it could be Brazil a 16mm scale locomotive designed by Keith Bucklitch. The plans were for sale by him although they were available on the now defunct Yahoo 16mm loco group.

The website may give you some ideas, however it is in french as I can't find the English version anymore:

I should add it is a model of a Kerr Stuart Brazil locomotive.

On closer inspection of the photo the chassis is keith Bucklitchs Brazil with a meths fired boiler that has gained a dome. maybe the builder intended to build it with side tanks rather than a saddle tank. Nice loco, it has Hackworths valve gear.

All the drawings are actually on the website linked to by Ian. Just click on the link ' Vers la page ".........." and keep clicking the same link on each page. You will eventually get to the valve gear drawings:

Please can we use the correct Whyte notation and call it an 0-4-2 locomotive? Christmas rant over.

We could go one step further and call it an 0-4 -2 ST.

Bill

Or we could just chill...
