What a fantastic working museum this is,

A must see if you are anywhere near Cardigan.

They're running the Willans Central valve steam engine at high speed in mid October. Still trying to work out if I can justify the 500 mile round trip to see the engine that was made in our works and went from there to the museum in 2017.

My wife and I visited the Internal Fire museum today, which we also recommend for a visit. The weather forecast was rain, but it was pretty dry and we had some sun throughout the afternoon and evening. I have been several times before, each separated by several years, and each time they have more engines on display. Many of the large oil/diesel engines were running.

The museum now has a building for steam engines (perhaps they should now change the name of the museum), which was running on steam today. Worth checking what will be running if you plan a visit. I have previosly found the volunteers very keen to start an engine when not much is running.

Other items of interest include a shed with working telephone exchanges (Strowger, I think; uniselector switches), plus marine and amateur radio equipment.

Now, what to do in West Wales with the dire weather forecast for the rest of the week?

I was supposed to be going to the museum to deliver some literature I've collected from the owners of Stationary engine magazine on the 12th and 13th October, the end of season event, family problems has stopped this.

Mention was made of the phone exchange, I helped remove and delivered a lot of the equipment from the Nene Valley railway signal box, it filled a complete large room and had to be removed to make space for the new equipment, what the railway didnt realise was the two replacement units were only two boxes 18" x 18" x 4" thick.

To move the old stuff took my Vauxhall Vivaro van and a 12' long twin axle trailer to shift it all to IF.

I hope to go for the 26th October museums at night event.
